Second leg, Beaufort NC - Green Turtle Cay Abacos Bahamas. About 535 miles, 3 days, plus a morning. These are nice boats indeed. https://youtu.be/uX9Gi67bjKY

Still learning how to sail with it, and one key part is being replaced by Hydrovane. I was glad I had it, however: At one point on the trip during a downpour, one of the H5000 displays failed, and the b&g canbus network went down, taking the autopilot with it. I was glad the Hydrovane was aboard, or I’d have another hand steering over the ocean experience. My Hydrovane was delivered with a defect in the rudder, and they’ve agreed to replace the rudder with a new one. I expect it will work beautifully once this issue is resolved.
By the way, we were able to bring back the b&g network by: 1. Powering everything off 2. Disconnecting the faulty H5000 display by pulling its connection to the network. 3. Powering back on. Everything came back and worked perfectly. Faulty display on the way to B&G for replacement.

Interesting, thanks Kipwrite. What was the defect in the rudder? We have finally fitted ours, but haven’t used it yet and due to cross the Atlantic at the end of next week. . By H5000, do you mean the small display with the autohelm controls on it? If so, we just learnt from an excellent B&G Rep here in the Canaries that a few years ago they had a problem with water ingress between the screen and casing of this particular unit. This has now been resolved in the new units. We had to replace ours a couple of months ago in Sardinia as it was full of water. We had thought it was a leak between the pedestal and the unit and so were thinking of siliconing our units up...just as well that was still on our to do list as not necessary....
