Gosh, having read over the entirety of the 505 section now its obvious we are a little late to the party. But, still loving the new boat and adding bigger and bigger adventures onto the end of the todo list. The current issue is I'm trying to add engine and tank interfaces to the NMEA200 bus (Simnet) I have the interfaces all plugged into the Volvo D2 and the tanks and terminating in the engine compartment. The longest Micro-C to simnet cable I could get was 4 meters and I'm looking for a place to plug it in. There are places at the nav station but if I rout from engine to their I can't make it in less than 4M. Wondering if there might be a better path to one of the lazeretts or another place -Like wherever the compass is mounted in the aft cabin? Any ideas would be very appreciated. -Paco Carr "Mariposa" 505 #58

Hi Paco, if you have bought the Yacht Devices (YDEG) interface you can access the Simnet from the Volvo engine panel. It is a simple plug and play job. From the YD plug you have the NMEA 2000 (Micro-C) to Simnet cable which is long enough to reach an instrument connected to the Simnet. Be careful when you remove not to break the plastic panel, it is bonded with Sika. BTW did you replace the floating lever typ fuel sensor with something more reliable?  ------------- Frank |

Thanks for the response and great Idea. The solution works for me except I have to get the tank connections into the same NMEA interface somehow. Hmm, one solved, one unsolved. And yes, I ordered the new Philppi sensors for the Deisel tanks but I got the wrong flange so I'm waiting for that to show up. Haven't tackled the water tanks yet but I fiugure if I add a watermaker running out of fuel is the important one. Thanks again,

I would not bother bringing the tank sensor signal to the Simnet. Imho too much hazzle. Installing new wiring in a Hanse is PITA. When you have replaced the sensor you can get the signal via the existing cable(s) to your Würth panel. Alternatively you can install a Philippi tank sensor display, again using the existing cabling. ------------- Frank |

Yes, I saw that Dave did that -I think? and I like the alternative panels as I think the Wurth ones are very coarse in terms of a capaity for a tank readings. And the alarm that you reset but then goes off again as soom as the liquid is sloshing around. That's just downright unfortunate and poorly conceived. Its a lot of boat to be keeping up with without a support crew. What do you do for wash and wax? Do you give up a couple days of your life, or pay someone? or go without? I got a quote for $1K to do the whole thing, when I choked they pointed out that the hull had to be washed and waxed by hand while she was in the water. So she could be presumably better handled when she is on the hard with electricity but it is still a really big number. The guy next to me in the marina has it done every two weeks -Blows my mind.

If you want the tank signals on the Simnet I would use the existing cabling to the central switchboard and install the A/D interfaces in the switchboard compartment. There are some open Simnet connectors already available. BTW Philippi have a new multiple tank monitor with a nice color display  ------------- Frank |
