Big%20smileIt would be good to see some favorite anchorages from Hanse owners around the world. This is Fishermans Beach, Broken Bay, Sydney, Australia. Mid morning, weekend, air temp mid 20s(C), water temp 21C and a beach to ourselves!
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones that you did do. So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. explore. Dream. Discover." Mark Twain.

Ozzi:  This is sheer perfection.  We'll have to make the trip from our marina in Sidney (Canada) to Sydney some time.  We have some great anchorages too, so I'll try to contribute some shots this summer.

Can I sneak in an anchorage picture although Emilia is not a 400?

Ozzi, I think the place you found looks great!

Doesn't begin to come close to your spot Ozzie, but here was one of our favorites so far in Key Biscayne, FL.

Johan, if I may ask, what are you using to "sign" your photographs?

Carlos, I am using Photoshop. I put my signature in the scanner and then I paste it into my photos.

It looks as if you found a neat place to anchor too.

Thanks Johan... it looks very professional, I tend to get ragged edges when I've tried pasting my signature in... Looks like I'll have to experiment a bit to get it right!

Again, Thank you,

As Landlocked said, we have some pretty great anchorages here on the West Coast of Canada. Here are two shots of Princess Cove on Wallace Island, a small island in the Gulf Island chain - this is the northern, Canadian extension to Washington state's San Juan Islands. Princess Cove is a dedicated marine park. One can go on shore and walk around the island on trails, etc....

In this thread I saw very nice anchorages, but a Mediterranean one is definitely missing. Here's one of my favorites. It's the SE side of the Argentario peninsula, not far from Porto Ercole (on the left) and Cala Galera (right behind my boat), on the Tuscanian coast.

Best,

Michele

I am enjoying all the photos a lot, not to mention the last one which is indeed lovely. Thanks a lot to everyone for posting!

I think our globe is fascinating, different features in nature create different habits in mooring. Steve in Canada is docking stern-to to an island, while Ubi Bene is docked "all'inglese" as the italians say, to a rock. In the country where I live everyone would dock bow-to with an anchor from the stern. It all depends on how deep it is close to the shore, of course.

Let me contribute with a photo taken last weekend. Most people had taken their boats out of the water so we were alone at this usually crowded place. It's located only 7 M from the center of Stockholm. When we woke up in the morning the deck was full of leaves.

currently Hello everyone, we are from Australia and are currently cruising in Croaita and have chartered a Hanse 400, simple reason being is we wanted to really try the boat out before we took the next step of buying one.  This picture is taken on the Island of Piskera on the western side of the Kornati Island Group.  We are on charter for the 5 weeks and are sailing as a family of four, with 2 daughters aged 13 and 8.  The 'crew' is quite inexperienced but I am pleased to say the Hanse 400 is an absolute dream to sail, incrediby comfortable in a sea way and very spacious.  We have been sailing often in +30 knots true and the boat handles the conditions beautifully and the young crew feel very safe and confident.  Obviously we are finding lots of wonderful anchorages and moorings so will post a few as we go along.

Hi All, Just to join in the fun I enclose a couple of anchorages in the Med-one is in the anchorage adjoining Porto Cervo marina on a quiet day and the other is in the superb but rock bound Cala Lazarina on Ile Levezzi in the Bouches de Bonifacio with Gulliver centre back.In both photos she is lying in much less than 2 metre depth showing that a wing keel 301 can get to places others cannot!
PS. The water really is this colour!

I can vouch for water color in Cala Lazarina. To my knowledge it is among the most incredible spots ON EARTH. 400 and bigger owners don't worry. actually water depth is 4 to 5 meters if you dont go close to the beach (unbelievably beautyfull). Entry is tight but I have personally witnessed a Swan 60 spending the night at anchor in there. Bunch of really cold blooded sailors, to my wisdom, but a 40 footer or ,actually, anything with less than 3 meters draught, can get in there, with caution and only good wheather, but once in is as safe as in port. Even better actually because the place is so tight that even swell cannot get in. GO THERE IF YOU CAN!

Hi Panos...thank you and yes, the islands are beautiful. There is one more house on the island. All the houses used to belong to the lighthouse master, his crew and their families.

Up to 15-20 people could live here...all the year around.
Svenner Lighthouse is one of the Norwegian coastal lighthouses. Along the 83000 km long Norwegian coast as many as 212 manned lighthouses has been built. 154 of them has been operational at the same time. Now they are all electrically powered from shore and automated, and therefor all of them has been abandoned. The last to be left was in 2006. Now local enthusiasts take over and maintain the buildings and use them for boy scouting, rental, restaurants artists galleries an soforth..the list of usage is long.

Most of the lighthouses can be visited by boat, but careful reading in the Norwegian Pilot Guide and maps are recommended as waters can be dangerous...as the little handwritten map shows.

_popupControl(); A couple of pictures.  An idylic early morning in late March North of Sydney in Broken Bay before the wind arrived and this week in a pretty anchorage in Refuge Bay [Kuringai Chase National Park] after heavy overnight rain.  Later in Broken Bay and Pittwater, rain showers and gusting to 20 knots but the 400e handled it well with full sail with only two of us on board.

My Favorite anchorage so far on our voyage to Alaska. Eucott Bay Hot Spring, closest towns Ocean Falls BC (a large ghost town) and Bella Coola BC. Only 4 boats there. That is me and my wife Shirley from the Hanse 371 Tangleberry on the right and our friends Cliff and Orma from Skylark II on the left.

Below, Tangleberry  sailing up a narrow channel. Self tacker very useful!

This is Kerkyra anchored in Montague Harbour on Galliano Island, roughly mid-way between Vancouver Island and the mainland.  Well sheltered, beautiful sunsets and warm enough for a quick envigorating swim (18C).

We've caught fish and crab just outside the entrance and had the world's best seafood chowder at anchor.  A retired couple who purchased a retired ferry boat anchor in Montague for most of the summer and operate a bakery business on-board, supplying fresh pies for dinner and fresh cinnamon buns for breakfast.

One of the beaches in the harbour is covered with a thousand years' accumulation of shells from the native peoples' harvests.

As you can tell, this is a favourite of mine!

Hey Owen - I remember Montague....  the cinnamon buns first thing in the morning are excellent! Between those and fresh bread one can spend a good $30 in one shot! To heck with this high tech business we're in, I think there's money to be made in fresh baking for boaters! Will be heading there in August....
