Just a short question for help to find the right modell:

I plan to buy a used Hanse, choice between 385 and 415.

I want to place it in Kappeln/Schlei. Sailing normally in the south of Denmark and the german coastline. For summer holiday I prefer to sail in the swedish westcoast and Norway.

Without starting a long discussion for pro and con,

what‘s the experience of 415 owners to find free spaces in harbours, especially of the 4,xx m size of the hull. Problems to find a fitting space in harbours in the area i normally sail during the year?

My wife prefers the second bathroom in the front, I a narrow(er) boat...

We sail in the same area and both boatsizes will have no problems.

Our draught/keel is supposed to be 1.95meters, but I suspect it to be 2.03m instead.

There are some harbours in southern Denmark that are not deep enough for us.

An addtional toilet needs maintance/cleaning and from what I hear - most times the space is reclaimed for extra storage. If In harbour you can use these facilities or the blackwater tank fills too soon...

I would think that below 46 feet a second head would hurt the resell value.

Hi,

We sail a 418 and ordered the boat with only one head. Reason is same H8jer mentiones: up to 45ft a second head is using too much valuable space and really reduces the space in the bow cabin.

My only reason to go for a second head is to use is as an extensive dry-locker for our sailing suits. This pro was not enough to compensate for the big loss of space in the bow cabin. And in addition we now have an almost rectangular bed instead of the cramped v-shape.

Only for rental boats I'd choose a second head for obvious reasons.

Size wise, we would have been happy with a 388 rather than the 418.

We bought the 418 because the owners cabin allows us to sit up in the "island style" bunk, under the foredeck and have our morning cup of tea & read the papers etc. I know, a peculiarly British thing to do, but for us this was a game changer. I don't think the 415 allows an aft facing bunk up forward does it? I seem to remember it was the a traditional forecabin with feet at the fwd end?

Like others, I definitely wouldn't opt for the fwd heads, which I think would take a lot out of this otherwise quite roomy cabin
