Looking at buying a 2008 370e which still has the original sail drive two part hull seals. No evidence of leaks, but Yanmar say they should be replaced every 7years.... there seems to be little info on the web, and I’ve seen posts from mechanics saying they’ve never heard of one leaking let alone sinking a boat.... I have heard of loads of boats that have the originals without issues after 20 years plus. The current owner says he wouldn’t consider replacing them until the sensor showed the exterior one was beginning to weep Anyone with any thoughts or experience on this Thank you

Same boat as mine. I have not changed the saildrive seal yet. Might change before 20 years old... ;-) I previously changed when it was 15 years old and it was as new. -------------  Sea-U is a 370e #532 located SW Norway

I changed the seal on my 370 from 2008 after 7 years. The old one was looking as new. Will keep the new one for more than 7 years. ------------- Kristoffer Hanse 370e #412 |

i have the hanse 370 from 2006 with the 40 hp yanmar. Still not changed the seal , and will not do it before it is about 20years. Have seen boats with boots 25 years old or more being replaced and the boot looks like the day it was fitted. With yanmar sail-drives they have water sensor and alarm between the two boots, unscrew water sensor between two boots annually, place it into glass of water, it should alarm sensing water, as long as this works no need to change boot. ------------- Stephen 2010 H400 #691, Auckland, New Zealand |

Not changed mine since new... The outer seal part of the kit is only a fairing and could come off without causing any issues. i have just decided to bite the bullet this year on my 2003 Hanse 341, so the rigging is being replaced for the first time, apart from the forestay that was changed 3 years ago, and the Yanmar saildrive seal is being replaced. You will be able to tell whether anybody has checked the water seal, as you will wind many twists in the wire as you unscrew it. I always twist the sensor anti-clockwise a few times, before I screw it back in. Double check for moisture with a piece piece of some form of tissue paper ------------- Martin&Rene Hanse 341 Dipper Wheel steering, 3 cabin layout, normally based in Scotland |

In 2021 i replaced our saildrive seals Hanse370e 2007. There was a little cloudyness in the saildrive oil which prompted the investigation. Yes is recommended by Yanmar, 5-7 years. Easier than I expected and a great Youtube on the proceedure. The two oil seals are opposed, one to keep oil in, the other to keep seawater out. I found slight scoring at seawater seal. Yanmar very clever and give you a spacer to remove so new seal is moved along the shaft. Also replaced two Orings as recommended. Hardest was removing propeller, bloody big socket and small inpact driver. Impact driver also good for hex screws. we love our liveaboard 370e |

Replaced mine on a 311 a couple of years ago. Nothing wrong with it but I’m told that they are date stamped so if they fail and you are out of date you may jepodise insurance. Did mine for peace of mind. Dave |
