During the winter storms the starboard top safety line snapped on my Hanse 301, Dancing Demon ( yes I know it’s now 22 yrs old but she is still going strong)..
Does anybody have the length of this and the thickness of the wire inside the plastic sheathing etc..Due to personal reasons I have been unable to visit my Dancing Demons since October but she is being looked after by the kind harbour master in Stranraer, but sadly he threw it away, and I would appreciate it if somebody here could tell me the spec ( length etc and thickness, so I can replace it and feed it through the stanchions.. on my visit at the end of April.
My cruising season this year will be shortened but I will be back next year clocking up many more miles than my normal 900-1200 miles.
Cheers guys, much appreciated..

Hi, I'll try and remember to get that for you next time I'm down on the boat. One thing to bear in mind though, is that plastic coated guard wires are not recommended as they can corrode unseen. I'm pretty sure that for the Round the Island race, the safety rules don't allow them, but I can't find the exact wording right now.

Cheers much appreciated..
Interesting you mention about the plastic cover.. they must have changed the rules as I’ve done a couple of RORC races with them but admittedly they were a few years ago😂😂..

Hi Dave,

I finally remembered to take a tape measure and calipers with me today!

The overall length of the top wire including the end swages and tunbuckle between the inside faces of the two loops on the pushpit and pulpit is 755cm.

The wire on Dragonfly is 4mm.

The hole in the top of the stanchions is 10mm.

The loops welded onto the pushpit and pulpit are 6mm diameter.

Here are a couple of pictures showing the turnbuckle at the stern and the simple swage at the bow that is fitted to Dragonfly.

The rule I was talking about is 3.14.6 in the ISAF 2022-2023 Offshore Special Regulations Governing Offshore Racing for Monohulls & Multihulls 2022 which is what the Round The Island rules use. https://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/WSOffshoreSpecialRegulations20222023v2-%5b27823%5d.pdf" rel="nofollow - https://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/WSOffshoreSpecialRegulations20222023v2-[27823].pdf

I hope that helps.

Pete
