Hello,

When the wind goes above 3/4 Bft tightening the mainsheet becomes a difficult task.
I have to use the winch to tighten the mainsheet.
I was wondering if replacing/adding a block would be an improvement.
Do any of you have a solution for this ?

Greetz,

Koen

Hi Koen
A 371 is a sizeable boat, I am amazed that you aren't putting the mainsheet on a winch all the time!
Sure you could add more pulleys but then you have to pull through more rope for the same effect.

Hi Paul,

Since I usually go sailing with min. 3/4 Bft, I do indeed use my winch to operate the mainsheet. Some  extra pulleys might be helpful.

Thanks,

Koen

As I expected for a sail of this size, I use the winch all the time at those windspeeds especially going to windward.  Not an issue at all for us, although use of an electric winch/Ewincher makes it a lot easier (particularly for my wife) to trim the sheets.  I certainly wouldn't want to add yet more rigging to the boat; there's enough of it already.  Check out the threads on this site about electric winches, EWinchers, etc.  The latter made a huge difference to us.
