Also up in Hanse FB group.1. Main in mast furling: I have had one about a decade ago, but not with a continuous line. Assuming to pull out the main, unlock both continuous lines and pull outhaul. Nothing to pull with continuous line? Lock continuous line after sail is out? To furl, does it make a difference which line of the continuous line I pull? Assuming one side rotates clockwise, other counterclockwise? 2. I am stunned that my boat did NOT come with a shore power cord, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, flares, or horn! I have had new French and US built boats over the past 2 decades, and they all came with these items. Does Hanse not ship these? 3. Dealer said hardly anyone mounts the remote for the windlass in the anchor locker?! 4. Every other boat I have had had a switch for the battery charger. I do not see one. Is there one, or when I run the engine it will just charge the battery(s) |

Congratulations on your new 348. I took delivery of mine (#199) on the Western Long Island Sound in early August almost 2 years ago and we are loving the boat. I have the slab main so cannot comment on the in-mast furling system. Al the other items you mentioned were included in the boat. Most frequently I am told that we bought the boat from the dealer and not from Hanse so I would review with them I do use the mount for the windlass remote. The dealer also included the pole for the ensign on the starboard pushpit. The service battery switch is behind the starboard settee cushion in the cabin (it is identical to the main engine switch in the starboad aft cabin). Best wishes!

Congrats on your new boat! For pulling out the main with the outhaul, you need to keep some tension on furling line, otherwise the whole main will come out instantly. To furl in, it goes.in one direction only, check how the wheel on the mast rotates with continious line, the mechanism is very simple. The rest is pretty much dealer dependent, I picked my boat in Greifswald, and Wendel Rados shop next to Hanse shipyard sold me all the stuff that you mentioned plus lot of other stuff for some extra $$$.

Question for the group. 348 with 29 hp Yanmar; What is the best cruising speed under power and roughly what RPM? I assume it is recommended to run the engine lower than full throttle. Thank you.

I have 3gm, 29 hp. I have had this engine in 3 different boats for the past 20 years (boats were between 33 and 38').
You should run the engine for a while every so often at close to WOT, at least 3200 rpm. This is not the most efficient for mpg but good for the engine.
But I normally run between 2 and 2.8k rpm while under power. Depending upon wind/current, this will give you a speed of about 5-7 kts. If I have 15kts of wind from astern, I am doing about 4.5kts at ~1500 rpm.

I am at 6.0 - 6.1kn with 2050 rpm 2400 rpm gives you 6.6 - 6.7 kn. Engine in Volvo 29 Hp with factory 2 blade folding prop.
