Hi everybody,

I am the happy owner of a 470e. Looking at doing some modes to this beautiful Hanse to get her slightly more race ready for club racing and some offshore racing.

We are interested in fitting in a permanent bowsprit to be able to have a decent aSail and Code 0/PFR setup. We will retain the self tackin jib for cruising and we are playing with the idea of designing a 110% jib to make use of the side tracks and last but not least as a start we want to replace the existing furler with a below-deck furler.

If anyone out there has experience on any of the above it would be great to hear your thoughts.

We have several other mods coming but this is the beginning ;)

I have a 430e and was not impressed with the self tacker. I replaced it with 104% jib that I use with the side tracks. Sailing performance is better but depending on the sailing angle, I need to route the sheets either through the shrouds, or around them. Not that big of a deal I guess.

I'm also not impressed with the Facnor furling unit as it's extremely difficult to furl the sail and I plan on changing that this year.

Lastly, I think I'm going to try moving the deck mounted blocks via "strops" closer to the underside of the boom to see what that does when trying to center the boom. I saw that on this site somewhere but can't recall the exact posting.

This is from a slightly larger Hanse model of the same era.  I took the picture because I thought it might work on the 470 also.  There is a bob stay down to an eye bolt fitted to the steel stem plate.

Hello all - I have a 2012 HANSE 470 in Vancouver Canada
It's been a bit since my last posts but wanted to tag onto this thread for the Bow Sprit conversation.  I am getting my boat prepared to race offshore on the West Coast of Canada and the US.  The ultimate goal is to complete the Ocean Race - Victoria to Maui in 2028 with a number of Offshore and inshore races over the next couple of years.  That being said one of the modifications that I am tackling first is the bow sprit for the additions of Asymmetrical Spinnakers and Code 0.  I have come across an Italian Premanufactured Sprit called Unibow and specifically for the Hanse 470 they have one called the Unibow Compass (I am considering the Compass 50 in carbon - with a 900 MM projection from bow), I wanted to see if any of you on this forum have installed one of these on your boat or know of these bow sprits?  I have a few pictures from their website that have installed these on some of the Hanse 470's - what is nice is it allows for the anchor to be run through it and gets the anchor further away from the bow to avoid any damage to the bow with lifting or dropping, also it has a code 0 and asymmetrical spinnaker attachment along with bob stay support for the code 0 (not attached in some of the pics as I think it was still being installed) and anchor that secures to the existing plate on my bow.  If you have any comments, I would like to hear them before I move forward with ordering and installing in the next couple months.  I will also try to document all the mods I am going to tackle on the mast, winches (need two new/location for jib and spinnaker trim), staysail (inner forestay) water maker etc as I go along to add to the forum knowledge base.  Hope to hear any feedback you all might have.
All the best Charlie

I have a Reckmann MF-2DF below deck furler installed. Works amazing and brings the tack town to only a few centimetres above deck level. Furling is super easy. Stainless steel bearings, low maintenance… love it. It came with double groove profiles and the Reckmann low friction top swivel. Also available in electric and hydraulic if you fancy, look the same above deck. Installation requires a little deck modification.
