Salt (545) is fitted factory with a 15amp 230 volt shore power connection and the original Victron 3000 inverter. She also has a Panda 6000i genset which can comfortably run most loads including the 3 AC units simultaneously, however the shore power is far too undersized to run the AC units.

Does anyone know what's involved in upgrading the shore power to 32amp, which would enable use of AC when in marina?

It goes without saying a licensed electrician would need to perform the conversion, however I'm trying to gauge how difficult the upgrade would be.

I run a separate 32A shore power line for my 3AC units (240V 3.5kW total power), using 25 ft AWG 8/3 Triplex Cable Ancor Marine. Took me a few hours to snake the cable, also needs a separate circuit breaker near shore power inlet for compliance. Cheers!

Original when you order the 545 with Aircond at the factory you have to order the extra AC package included the 6KVA gen , Victron multi 3000 instead the 1600 and a second shore 230v 16Amp AC connection only for the airco’s.

I didn’t order this at Hanse and did the generator and airco (2x7000 1x14000 BTU) by my self. Replaced the original Victron Multi 1600/12/60 by Quattro 3000/12/120 and no second 230v 16 Amp shore line. instead of the Multi where you need to switch the generator-shore switch the Quattro will automatically choose the power line who is providing power.

In the beginning there was the issue the Quattro disconnect sometimes the shore- our the generator power as the result of a overload when the 3 airco ‘s working ( cranck power of the biggest one). After placing a softstart (Mirco-Air US made) on this unit the problem is solved.

But IMO making a second shore connection is not a big deal even for DIY , but still than the 6Kva generator will have a overload when 2 airco’s are running and the third (especially the biggest one without easy start) is starting up. The generator will not power up fast enough before the Multi Plus our Quattro will cut for a overload.

My 505 was factory fitted with 4x10.000 BTU, FP 10kVA generator and 2 16A 230V shore power connectors. The 2nd shore power connector is exclusively used by the aircon units. My Victron MultiPlus 12V/3000/120 (not original) is not part of the aircon AC circuit.

So I would think it would be relatively easy to just add a 2nd AC circuit for your aircons.

Interestingly Salt is factory fitted with the FP 6Kva genset and 3000 Multiplus, but not the second shore power. I'm fairly certain that AC was fitted after delivery, albeit was 'factory prepared'.

I think I have 3 x 10,000 btu units, two in main saloon and one in forward cabin. All 3 will run off genset, albeit I need to be careful introducing much other additional load.

I've found even a single AC unit will trip the shore power (often on the dock), albeit I probably have the battery charger on at the same time. Given it seems like the factory setup is just a dedicated 16amp shore power connection, it seems I should be able to run 1 or possibly 2 AC units off the existing shore power if I'm careful to not introduce much other load?

Makes me wonder if the initial startup current is the problem and a couple of soft start units might be enough to get a couple of AC units running without an additional cable to the dock?

I don't believe the AC, water maker or hot water heater are connected to the multiplus, they seem directly connected to the Genset/Shore power. Makes me wonder whether a second 16amp shore power feed could simply be brought to the shore/genset selector switch (assuming it can carry the current)?

Do Hanse prefer 2x 16amp over single 32amp because more likely to be available on docks?

It depends if your boat is built to US specs or EU specs, my 458 was built to US specs, therefore the original shore power inlet and wiring was already 30A to handle the same power at 120V. If you have 3x10000BTUs it should be around 3kW or 12-13A of.current at 220-240V therefore in principle another 16A shore power line should be fine but you will be pretty much maxed out and cannot use hairdrier/waterboiler in the same circuit. My choice was 32A but it's true you will need 32-16A adapter to use 16A marina outlets, there is one from Marinco that I got for this case.

And big yes for easy start micro air, I also wired three of them for each AC unit, can start any of them from battery-inverter without a problem.

I have two circuits. The service on 15a and dedicated circuit for the Ac's (240v) on 32A connected to a second galvanised isolation transformer and using 6mm cable. All according to the Hanse wiring diagram. We have a Fischer panda 10000i and have no issues with 3 ACs (one 16k BTU and 2x 13k). We also have automatic switchover from between generator, shore, and inverter.
