Hi all,

For my Hanse 345 I am considering to add a third reef to the main sail. Though I haven’t missed it yet, I would expect at sea with a 7 Bft wind it might be useful? I would normally avoid that strong wind but a forecast of 6 Bft could easily become more and I’d like to be ready for that.

My main sail second reef leaves about 12m2 from the original 25,6m2 of the mail sail.

I  am interested to hear your experience: Does she still sail with 3rd reef and rolled jib? Should I add the reef. And then: how to reef it, as there is only space for 2 reefing lines.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Sjoerd

- It seems that Martin&Rene has already answered your question!
Sail safe out there, and if your seacocks are more than 7-8 years old, change them now!

I have re-written and extended the thread that Captain Cook mentioned and it has just been published as an article in a Sailing magazine.  If you send me your email address by Private Message, I will send you a copy.
