The shackle on our main sheet traveller car broke last weekend. Not bad I guess, having survived for 20 years of non-linear loading. I have contacted Harken to check if parts are still available for this model, but I'm not hopeful to be honest. So I have the choice, fork out big bucks for a new traveller car, or refurbish the old one with new ballbearings and replace the shackle with a dyneema soft-loop. Has anyone gone down that route yet?  |

I contacted the Harken distributor for The Netherlands. Parts can be ordered and are fairly cheap. The stainless steel “shackle” goes under number HK ST-2011 and has a recommended retail price of €7,30. Plastic retaining screws are part number HK HFS243 ald go for €0,25 (but any other M6 plastic set screw would also work fine). I did not look for them online yet. The torlon ballbearings are scary at €26,50 for 25pcs but so be it.

Good to know, I should probably buy some hardware before mine breaks! I did replace my torlon balls in the spring and that was a big improvement. ------------- "Kerkyra" 400e #042 |

I have a 342 and the previous owner(s) had broken and replaced the blocks with odds and ends, so I tidied everything up with a pair of new blocks. But the real issue is that they get stressed to the max when gybing so we also installed a gybe arrester which takes the stress off the whole rig

Good morning. I had same problem during this summer . I change the piece but finally y changed by dymema rope (4 or 5mm) passed through the hole and never repeat the problem. If you send me your mail I share photos with you. |

Dynema solution. Insert 4mm dynemma rope instead steel hook, and prevent futures breaks.

Hi Another solution could be to remove the traveler completely. I did so several years ago. Had two stainless brackets made that fit the same holes/threads as the old traveler. The first block from the left is just to lift the mainsheet closer to the boom, otherwise there is not enough free space below for our inflatable Rib.   ------------- Hanse 370#487 30HP 3-cabin |
