Hi all,

Thinking about upgrading my delta 16 anchor to rocna 20 or vulcan.
Will it fit on bow roller together with bowsprit and code zero?
Anyone has this layout?
Thanks
Rutger

Hi Rutger - I think our boats share the same layout on the bow.

I replaced my Delta 16 with a Rocna 20 and it fitted well.  However, to rig the Code 0 on a furling drum I had to add a long soft-shackle strop to the end of the bowsprit so the drum would not rub against the roll bar when on the starboard tack.  Not ideal but it worked well enough for 4 seasons.

While the Rocna performed so much better than the Delta, I wanted something that would cut through Kelp weed more effectively so changed again to a 22kg Sarca Excel.  That fitted very easily and removed the need to use a strop.

The picture shows the Rocna plus Code0 attached.

Hi

Ratbasher is right. The furler is obstructed by the Rocna.
I have a 15kg Rocna on my Hanse 370.

Thanks again for the images supplied by you and H8jer

I’ve just ordered an Odin 40 anchor for my 370. As mentioned in a previous post I was originally thinking of an ultra, but the Viking in a number of tests performs better than the ultra and the Odin is a development of it but without the roll bar. The only reason my Delta has lasted so long was that the one I have is stainless and looks nice. It should be arriving in the next couple of weeks so when it comes, I’ll take a pic and post it.

I’ve just received an email saying that the Odin 40 anchor is out of stock and won’t be available for 2 months. Looks like my Delta has had a last minute short term reprieve!
If all goes to plan, I’ll get it in a couple of months and post a pic.

Hi Rutjer
Are you also planning on installing a 10mm chain? The 8mm chain is a bit limited for that heavier anchor, I think.
I tried a similar anchor in the hole, but I don't know how much space your code 0 takes.

I use 3 links of 10mm chain before a Kong swivel then 70m of 8mm G43 chain.  This gives a Minimum Breaking Load of 4400kg and a Working Load Limit of 1100kg across all the components which is more than enough for the calculated loads.  If you use 10mm chain at those lengths you're putting substantial extra weight in the second-worst place in the boat for no real gain. The 3 links allow the swivel to articulate thus avoiding side-loading which can reduce the strength by up to 90%.  I always shudder when I see anchors connected directly to the arms of a swivel, even that nice shiny Ultra one.

Rocnar Vulkan 20 kg works with my anchor fitting and original Genacker boom. Although I think I have the anchor fitting solution that you could probably fold out once.
I have made a bow platform from both.

The bow pedestal is nice and practical. Thumbs Up
My boat is from 2007 and doesn't have a pedestal.
It's not easy to get something like that around here either.
Do you know of any places where I can get one?

‘I built this myself. Since I am limited in length at my berth, take a look at the description at We Sail Hanse.’
