The pumps are reciprocating pumps so they are noisy.
If you have to replace the pump, then put a pump guard filter between the tank and the pump

We occasionally use a small 12v submersible pump to "hoover" up any sediment in the water tank.

I tape it onto a thin old sail batten and you can clean up any residue. It could also act as a spare emergency water pump.
