Hi All,

Our 430e has been found to have some irregularities in the hull which I am going to get looked at with ultrasound. However I cannot find any information on the details of the hull layup other than it is an epoxy foam sandwich mostly. I want to know where the foam sandwich stops and starts. For example I replaced some through-hull skin fittings from the front section and the hull was only fibreglass there.

Can anyone provide more details on the hull layup?

cheers

Andy

I always thought that the epoxy resin was everywhere. I’m definitely interested in what you find out.

How did you find out about the hull irregularities? Are they structural?

Well, I finally got ahold of a layup file for the hull of a 430  uploads/8704/Hull_layup_HA43-MA-04.pdf" rel="nofollow - uploads/8704/Hull_layup_HA43-MA-04.pdf
It confirms what little information I had previously received - straight fibreglass around the keel and thru-hull areas but otherwise core elswhere.

The boat had previously been badly damaged - which I knew about - so we are trying to workout if there was previous repairs that have not held or whether the damage had not been detected previously.

A hull tap test was done to listen for inconsistent sounds. Subsequent cores will be taken through the hull to support or refute possible damaged areas.

Interesting.

Prior to purchasing my 430e, it was disclosed that the boat had been grounded and the grid sustained damage. The grid was repaired and properly tabbed. I was concerned about this but was advised that the repair actually made the boat stronger so I followed through on the purchase.

The other structural issue that I have is that my boat has a compression post installed immediately aft of the bulkhead that separates the forward cabin. I was advised that during commissioning of the running rig, the hull would flex and hence the post was installed. As far as I know, no other 430 has this post installed.

Following your post with interest.

Hello
In the years  (2007-2010) I have worked by a Hanse dealer and we have some structural flexibility hull deforming issues with the first build 430’s.They have deformation problems off the hull.
One off them deformed badly in the length direction by setting the rig under tension.
After a long, difficult and heavy dispute via lawyers,Hanse replaced this boat by a new one but the transportation cost, the bad one back and pick up the new one to Greifswald was to the expensive off the owner 🤬

So only one was replaced?

Did the other owners not express concerns?

I only have knowledge about this one (one of the early building numbers 2007 I guess)
On this moment Hanse changed the building process I believe from a metal frame to a prefab grid

I have seen a picture of a 430 with a fully rectangular door to the fore cabin.  It also had a crack in the lower part of the bulkhead.  Most pictures that I have seen show a chamfered base of the door, which mine also has.  I also believe that the fore cabin head once had a door perpendicular to the bulkhead.

Was this part of the structural change made by the factory?

I’d post a shot of the chrome compression post in my 430e but am unable to reduce the photo to less than 500 MB. Is there a simple way to do that?

Hi Wild,
is this with the 430 or 430E or both? As im pretty sure the 430E is much stiffer than the 430. Does anyone have any other opinions/ experience with this? I have a 2008 model with the chamfered corner of the door to the forepeak cabin.

I’am not sure but believe it was a 430 e.

The owner was a regatta sailor.

So I figured out that if you email a photo to yourself, it gives you the option to select the file size.

The attached photo is not very good, but its the only one that I have at the moment.

It shows the angled sill that Dog mentioned, and it also shows the chrome post that was added to my boat during commissioning. And behind the chrome post is what appears to be a wooden structure/post - is that what you were referring to earlier?

Isswya,

My boat has the timber post but not the metalic post.

Your metal post is unique, I have not seen one on another 430.  I also see that you have the angled master berth, which I have never actually seen other than in Hanse pictures.

My 430e has the wooden post as shown behind your metal one.  I assume that it stiffens the bulkhead, but it does not go up to the base of the mast.

Not sure I understand your previous post about the chamfered base when compared to your latest post - does this mean that your cabin door looks like a regular door?
