I just replaced my DST810 (the original DST800 and its replacement DST810 had gone bad) with another DST810 (supplied by AIRMAR).     Once I did this,  I went into the ZEUS setup,  into NETWORK, then SOURCES, and did an AUTOSELECT which is recommended after changing items on the network.

Once I did this,  I found out I did not have WIND,  and things looked a little screwy.    I realize I have to calibrate the boat speed, but for a while the DATA display in the device list would show reasonably accurate wind speed, but the ZEUS display had something different.   It doesn't look right, and I'm wondering if some of the setup was lost.

My network has 3 ZEUS 2 displays.  Two 12" in the cockpit on the pedestals, and one 9" in the nav station below deck.    I also have four H5000 displays, that I have configured with various pages used depending upon whether I am navigating in the fog, or sailing hard to wind.

It also has a HYDRA CPU, NAIS 400, GPS, Compass, etc.  The wind unit is the 508.  Not one of the newer ones.  its all worked fine for the last 6 years after an unstable first year where B&G had to send their top tech to our boat to sort it all out.  Turns out it was the HANSE install job that caused the instability, not B&G.

I know that if you have the HYDRA (H5000 CPU) then your measured sources in the H5000 setup are the DST810 and the 508.   What isn't clear is the items that should be set to the H5000 devices.

If anyone has a similar setup, can you tell me how you have the HYDRA computer and the sources set up, as well as what is displayed on your ZEUS?   The DST810, the physical wind instrument, or the "virtual" stuff from the H5000 computer?

Rick,

I suspect the use of Autoselect may have been the issue, as I've found the less you change with B&G (once it's stable) the better off you are, and the more follow-on problems avoided. This includes software updates, which have previously caused me no end of grief.

When I change a device or source, I set things up manually after carefully reviewing how the system was set up previously and follow my tracks.

Given that the data on the wind speed is accurate (when looking at sources), it's likely not properly selected as a source.

My 505 is spec'd similarly to yours, Zeus 2 circa 2016, with 4 H5000s etc.

I'd recommend working from the MFDs, go into settings, then network, then sources, and go through every 'indicator' and make sure it is sourced correctly and assure it is the same on all three MFD's (it should be but strange things sometimes happen). It sounds to me like Autoselect made ill-advised source choices. If you have your old settings around, I'd replicate them.

If not, in general, I've found that things like Boat Speed (and the similarly named Speed Log) need to be sourced from your DST 800 or 810, and most everything else that requires a calculation (for example, TWS, AWS, TWD, COG etc) should be sourced from the H5000. I've had different sources for Heading, and it continues to be occasionally problematic. (Presently it is sourced from the H5000 but it's wonky once in awhile). AWA is sourced directly from the wind vane, as I recall.

I believe the H5000 units also allow you select sources from those displays - but I've not tampered with these settings much. It's unclear to me if the MFD displays supersede the H5000 selected sources, or if these are some linked.

I have a rule on my boat that no one tinkers with sources, ever.

If you'd like I'd be happy to follow up with all my settings but I'm not presently aboard.

Good luck sorting this out. It can be time consuming. I hope this helps.
