Anyone have a polar diagram for a 301 that they're willing to share?

I used to have an onboard PC (now swapped out for an iPad) which carried an NMEA polars software which was entirely in French. It gave some superoptimistic (7.5kn!) numbers and I never trusted it although my ability to interpret its setup instructions was suspect.it was the only windows software I could find dedicated to a polar. I think some of the ultra racy nav packages back in the day could produce one, but couldn’t afford them.

I have full NMEA feed for polar info through a WiFi multiplexer so I looked for a boat app on the iPad that would compute a polar but there seems to be nothing at all out there.

Seems strange that nobody has made an app for it.

Don’t think any published info from Hanse ever existed and obvs will never exist now, so would love someone still racing a 301 to come up with it but I think our chances are limited.

Some time ago I added the stats to a velocity prediction program for the 301. I’ve put it on GitHub here  https://github.com/sailingfree/Python-VPP-with-Hanse-301-polars" rel="nofollow - https://github.com/sailingfree/Python-VPP-with-Hanse-301-polars

I’m away at the moment so I’m sorry but I can’t run it to generate the plot.

The model for the wing keel 301 is. hanse_301_wingVPP.py  And was collected from published data and measurements used in our local club racing in Poole.

I used this for racing for a few years and it seemed pretty close, but I must admit I never really took the time to collect much real data to properly validate the model.

I’ve since built some detailed realtime logging of boat performance so maybe I’ll get around to doing the cross checks.

Anyway, this might be of some interest.

Sure, it’s basically there for anyone to use. The package is open source with a very permissive license.
