Can someone explain why the windlass is connected to house battery and not starter batteries.
Lowering and raising Windlass tales lots of current.Would it not make more sense to be on the starter battery?

Exactly because of high current needed for the windlass (~100Amps) you dont want a high discharge of the engine bat, because if you cannot start your engine a panic mode follows. House bats carry a lot more capacity, can support high current loads for much longer times

I've wondered why Hanse didn't use the thruster batteries - right under the windlass. Probably something to do with sourcing a single wiring harness to cover all options, including non bow thruster boats. Accountants?

I agree. The thruster batteries would have minimal voltage drop and would operate a more efficient 24 volt windlass.
