I need to change the oil in the Volvo D1; can anyone recommend an pump for extracting the oil from the engine?

Forgot to mention that I'm considering the Jabasco Little Pal pump kit so any opinions on it will be appreciated.

John,

I fitted a Marco UP3 electric pump in the engine compartment which can pump oil from the engine or gear box. More expensive than the hand pump option but will last a lot longer and requires no hand pumping.

I previously used a pump similar to the Jabsco and found it very messy.
I now have a spherical Pela vacuum pump and it is brilliant.  You can pump it a few (20) strokes and then leave it for 5 minutes before repeating the process several times.  5l extracted without spilling a drop in 20 minutes or so.

I just use a cheap electrical pump from Amazon, $20 or so. They do break after a couple of uses so I stocked up. A small overhead on top of the oil cost itself. For the price of Marco you can get a dozen of those pumps,  should last forever.Tongue

I have the REVERSO pump.   There are multiple models.    It puts oil in as well as out and you can set it up for your generator and other devices if needed.    It works well with my gen set and VOLVO engine.

They are rubbish & you have to collect the oil in a separate container
As suggested something like the Sealey extractor will not only collect the oil but last years
Make sure the oil is hot before extracting.

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't really considered an electric pump but I can see that is a probably more efficient and less messy; I will look into those.
