I am considering buying a 415/418 . The boat would be kept on a swinging mooring so access will be by a dinghy.

The transom platform appears to be at a height above the water that an inflatable dinghy would slip underneath it rather than against it.

I would be grateful to hear from existing owners if this is an issue.

You dont want this platform to be placed too low since it will be hit by the waves and jump all the time so that something will eventually get broken. I lower the platform, place the swim ladder, attach the ladder to the boat by the rope otherwise it will jump out and sink (happened to me already) then you can hit the ladder by the dinghy upon approach.

I would recommend boarding from the beam from a dinghy.

On our 400 we have stanchion gates with a fender step that can be adjusted to the required height. Its much easier than via the swim platform when the swim ladder is not in place (as would generally be the case on a swinging mooring).

Colin - I hung a small fender horizontally beneath the fixed stern platform on mine which works well, keeping the tender at the right distance while making access on and off easy and safe. I don't know what type of stern that boat has but if the platform is of the folding type perhaps attaching a couple of eyelets from which a fender could be quickly snap-shackled might resolve the issue?
