In order to be able to collect appropriate drawings, instructionsheets and manuals I encourage every Hanse 400 owner (and owners of other models with relevant technical properties) to share what they have got on this thread.

This way we may build documentation of the boats. Hanse should have handed over such documentation in the first place. It is a shame that there is not such a thing as an owners manual.

But we can help each other to generate one ourself. So copy what you have got and put it on the myHanse forum .

I enclose what I have got sofar...(has been shared before though)

Hi Tingeling,
It's a very good idea.

I still have to wait for my Hanse (expect to be delivered in June), but I searched for every information on the internet.
I have found some drawings on Denmarks dealer site.

Here it is:

Thanks to you...that was fantastic. You must be looking forward to receive your boat. I came afloat today and will visit the Swedish westcoast next weekend...this years virgintrip.

Encourage everybody to continue the search for more information and facts about our boats.

You two haven't left much out, but here is a "home-made" drawing showing the cushion sizes on our 400e with the 3-cabin layout.   These are my own measurements, not from the factory so I'll warn you to check for yourself before putting too much faith in them as yours may not be the same.   Still, maybe someone will find them a useful reference.  My apologies for the imperial units...

Hi there ,

For those interested the correct rig tensions for the hanse 400 can be found on this link , http://www.nspsb.co.uk/Media/MastSetup400.pdf - http://www.nspsb.co.uk/Media/MastSetup400.pdf  , correctly tuning the rig on my boat made a big difference from when it was delivered , so much so we managed to win a march series of races which was a big improvement from before using these tensions  . hope this is of value to someone ,
Best Regards

You are a busy writer, but an "Owners Manual" as you are asking for is supposed to be in every boat, it is in fact demanded by law in your country that the boat is deliverd with this item. And I am sure that if you ask your dealer for info. you will get it, they have the acess to it on the yard.

Indeed. In the EU we have to have an official Owner's Manual. Fact is that such a booklet is largely useless as it mostly contains general information and very few charts and plans or practical tips.
Dealers, in my experience, don't always have time/knowledge/will to share relevant info with the client once the boat has been sold.
Forums can help.

I am sorry, I am just trying to figure out the whole thing with the different interfaces and all that. It seems to me that the manufacturers want to keep any compatibilities a secret so customers don't go combining different brands.

So one of my questions would be how to install a different make of instruments on a SimNet system?

Hi Johan,

I was trying to find information how to mix SIMRAD with B&G both belonging to the same mother company (NAVICO). For a normal consumer like me(professionally I am an electrical engineer!) it proved impossible and I gave up after spending many afternoons and nights reading all sort of brochures, specs and installation manuals of both companies. Since B&G doesn't produce chart plotters they suggest to use these SIMRAD products, but there everything stops.

Just imagine the help you get to mix systems from different companies!

Even the open architecture system (like NMEA 183 or NMEA 2000) have been used as a sales argument but made useless by adding features and by using nonstandard connectors and power lines. Simnet is advertised as NMEA 2000 but the big question : if I buy a NMEA 2000 speed and depth sensor will it work with my SIMRAD wind instrument (by just plugging it in, or at least by using an adapter available from SIMRAD)? My opinion : I don't risk it.

Hi,

I found a lot of  information in this forum by Oyvind about the new SIMRAD instruments and was convinced that they utilize some of the B&G features that I love. So I gambled and ordered my 630e with all SIMRAD electronics: Glass Bridge 40 chartplotter , wind, log and depth, compass all IS20 ,pilot (although the pilot motor is from   Jeffa), radar, vhf with DSC and AIS all SIMRAD. I will also install a permanent video camera on masthead (brand not decided yet) visible on the GB40. The stereo and TV system I will not connect to simnet, although they seem to offer this possibility (to look to movies on the chartplotter ConfusedConfusedConfused--- imagine something to go wrong!!!). Also I am installing a permanent mobile phone, data device  and  WiFi network onboard (Ericsson w25 I think). Later I might install a satellite TV antenna depending on how the boat sails. I don't want to sacrifice a lot of the sailing ability, by adding weight up on the mast.

What are the B&G features that you mean are the same with IS20? I am not familiar with B&G but I hear that they've got a good reputation.

I am trying to get a compass transducer for my IS20 but there is currently no distributor for Simrad in Sweden.

Johan

PS. I had my echo sounder connected to the FM radio. However sophisticated it may sound, it was a noise I didn't like...

Hi

The new B&G h3000 color display has SimNet connectors.

See: http://www.bandg.com/en/Products/H3000/Digital-Displays/GFD-Colour/ - http://www.bandg.com/en/Products/H3000/Digital-Displays/GFD-Colour/

The next B&G GRC compass also comes with SimNet connectors.

h3000 sensors are working on FastNet thogh. Especially their wind sensor in combination with heel and trim measurements and an accurate compass is probably the best wind measurement technology available today.

If price is not an issue...Wink

Johan. it is possible, and easy, to connect simrad with other brands over Simnet and NMEA, but you have to convert to Simnet. For that you may use the Simrad AT 10 converter. I take the position from my C80 chartplotter on the NMEA 0183 interface, convert it to Simnet by means of AT10 and reuse it later for other applications (such as autopilot and repeater instrument). It works fine, but there is a hell of a lot of accurate configuration to be taken into account.

This manual will help you a lot:

http://chicagomarineelectronics.com/Simrad%20Documents/SimNet/Simnet-Install-Man.pdf - http://chicagomarineelectronics.com/Simrad%20Documents/SimNet/Simnet-Install-Man.pdf .

So, basically, if your various components have a NMEA interface, the answer to your question is converter AT10!

If the components do not have a NMEA 0183 and not a Simnet network connection, but a proprietary bus (like Sea Talk) you may not be able to connect unless you have a "master" of that system, like an autopilot or a chartplotter....then you can use the NMEA0183 of that system to make a bridge to Simnet.

You should also mind the speed of the bus, NMEA 0183 high speed is required to properly run an AIS (38400 baud), ordinary speed is 4800 baud, sufficient to communicate simple NMEA messages.

I gather I have contributed to your complete confusion. There are some Swedish guys with great expertise in this field....True Heading is one company...but there are others. Give them a call! They helped me figure out an AIS installation. (just as an example of the interface complexity).

Once on top of it, it is becoming fun...and interesting . As with sailing in general....allways something to learn!

Hi

Has anyone seen any updated version of file Kabellist.xls?

There seems to be a plenty of differences in cabeling of my new Hanse 400 compared to this table. Hanse seems to have updated the cable sets when they launched the facelifted 400. It is quite natural because they also switched to Simrad's new electronics at the same time.

Hi,
A little bit late but I was to a short sailing vacation.
IMHO the most important info a system must provide as accurate as possible is :
a)the true wind direction and/or the magnetic wind direction
b)the new apparent wind direction after you tack (or gibe) or turn.

Since both are calculated values ,based on measured values the accuracy of the readings (apparent wind and boat speed) ,the extraction of the actual value from the noisy reading and the averaging algorithms are very important. The formulas to calculate the true wind direction are actually streightforward. The difficulty is in the measurment !!!
