Hi,
By chance I found this site : http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?MMSI=239376500 - http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?MMSI=239376500
It registers some of my trips during the last months. To view them follow : http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/datasheet.aspx?datasource=ITINERARIES&MMSI=239376500 - Itineraries History
The picture was uploaded by me, not the positions.

How did they register your positions, by radio traffic?

Interesting.
Your max speed recorded was only 8.8kn? This is a speed my 370 is able to sail too.

Hi,
I don't know.
Somebody (who and why I don't know) is probably receiving and saving the AIS information transmited by our boat and publishes them in internet.
I don't think that they are a govermental or european organization (since they have sponsors!)
latest info : In their site under FAQ all questions are answered!

It is cool , if you don't mind others to know where you have been. You can prove where you was!
Lucky you, you are still sailing (I can see now), I look through the window and see snow! The last few days a gail. We have to wait untill spring (late march early april). Have fun.

It seems that some countries show the information and some not. i.E. close to the netherlands you see a lot cargos displayed. and the german northsee coast there is no cargo shown, but you can be sure there are a lot of cargos. May be that the big port authorities publish the AIS ships in the area. Watch live map.
In Greece (Athen) there are many ships shown, maybe yours too. I am just wondering why yours is shown because as far as i see only big cargos and VVVEEEEERRRY big YACHTS are displayed on my screen. . May be you have AIS A but your boat should have Class B . Sorry panos, your boat is to SMAAAAAAALL for Class A

I have AIS type B, which is turned off when not sailing.
Also because the huge amount of ships around the Athens area,Simrad system becomes very slow and therefore sometimes I turn it off while sailing, especially after I pass the Traffic separation zone starting close to the harbor area and ending some 12 miles south east.
When I visit the boat I will turn it on to see how long it takes to register.

It's good to know your whereabouts, Panos. As being Vice Admiral I have to keep my Captains under supervision.
Your sailing waters look marvelous from above. I wish I could sail there some time. What's the weather like this time of year?

In the Netherlands, we have several people picking up the AIS-information and put on a website. Picking up is pretty easy with some minor modification to a hand heldp VHF. I did it myself too.

If I get that far, do you think I could choose my own title? I would love it if I could call myself Most Humble Servant.

You don't want to know the weather up here in the cold dark north. By February we will have solid ice here.

I heard a roumor that this site suffers from something like the Y2K bug (doesn't recognise 4 digit post counts) and after post 999 the software will go back to 0. I suggest that you handle this matter with extreme care since we don't want to loose our admiral.

On the Marine International Organisation web site I found the following statement-
The Committee (MSC - Marine Safety Committee) condemned the regrettable publication on the world-wide web, or elsewhere, of AIS data transmitted by ships and urged Member Governments, subject to the provisions of their national laws, to discourage those who make available AIS data to others for publication on the world-wide web, or elsewhere from doing so.

Holy Cow! A quick search revealed http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?MMSI=235038451 - http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?MMSI=235038451
I'm not sure how I feel about it really. Just because it is broadcast, doesn't make it public information to be plastered all over the web, especially as the last post pointed out it is against some national laws.
On one hand, I think, who cares, on the other I feel a bit violated...

well leemind, there's no sneaking around anymore, but one has got to ask the question, - If Gov't have this technology to track us, then why, oh why do we need to have the proposed e border scheme for UK, the booking in and booking out of leisure yachts, mind you tho' I have watched and worried and complained about this but there seems to be a lack of concern from other leisure boater's, is this really the case

I see the point of being watched and that your 'private' info is send over the web.
IMHO it is not meant for that purpose. As the matter of the fact that you can be seen by other vessels might be of help while sailing at night ro in foggy weather. I know from my own experience whilst sailing in the German Bright, that I could see the movement of those large vessels. Especially fishing boats, they are only watching their fish radar instead of looking around. I know from people that they nearly got away from the unpredictable movements of these boats.

Hi Panos,
Have just checked on where your ship is -
Position Recorded on: 11/9/2008 6:56:12 AM (UTC) Lon/Lat: 23.704 / 37.91227 Speed/Course: 0.1 kn / 323°
Is it supposed to be there, or is someone trying to hide it?????

If I turn the AIS off you cannot track me anymore.
Since near Athens the AIS records 200+ ships and SIMRAD becomes very slow ,after I cross the Traffic separation zone (where I need it at most) I turn the AIS off.
