I had to look something up in my papers from the boat and looked over the order form. On it is an item that I cand place.

Does anybody know what is meant bij "2 voetrailklemmen"? Translated in english this should be "footrailclips"??

This should be part of a "Hanse-pakket" together with an rvx windex.

Do I miss something???

Ron

Thanks, I've got those. Can I use those to attach blocks for a gennaker?

I use them for the blocks from the gennaker.

But there has been some discussion in this forum if they are able to take the load.

I had so far no problems at all.

The problem is that the newer Hanses do not have any hole in the footrail, so it doesn't work.

Can you advise me on where you placed them? First i thought in a place where the sheet will be about in a straight line to the winch. Last week i got the advice to place tge sheetblocks as far back as posible and than back forward to the winch.

Also I still don't know if it is wise to have some line stoppers for these sheets, so I can have the winch free if I want to.

Has anybody installed stoppers for the gennakersheets??

I can't wait to give it a try, but looking outside I'm afraid I have to wait a while.

never mount stoppers in a genaker or spinaker sheet!
They must always have a possibility to let them run!
It is about 100 m2 and in a blow it can pul your boat flat , and wenn somone has closes the stopper by accident you might have a very big problem!
greetings marcel

@Zeester,

Marcel is absolut right. Do not add stoppers.
To plaxce the sheetblocks as far back as possible is in general not bad, but it depends on the cut of your Gennaker. I have mine mounted about 1,50m from the end of the boat. This is the best position for my gennaker.

Thanks all for the advice. I'll try using the "voetrailklemmen" and you've convinced me not to add some stoppers.

@ Zeester & Peter-Blake,

Do you put an "acht-knoop" (eight-knot) in your gennakersheet endings ???

Yes I do. In all lines that are at risk of being pulled thtuogh the blocks unintentionally I use an eight-knot.

I never put a eight nut in a spinaker sheet so i can have it slipped all the way wenn nesesery.
I do make a eight nut in every halyard.
Greetings Marcel

It is not common (done) to have an knot at in genacker or spinacker sheets. Safety rule.

Gregor,

How do you prevent the lazy sheet to slip out the block?

@Ron: make sure they are long enough. Sorry, in Dutch.

Groet, Gregor

In addition to the discussion of NOT putting any knot in a genaker sheet: do not put a knot in your
genaker halyard either!!!!!It can cost you a mast if your halyard cannot slip out in a heavy gust.

Why do you need a pair of footrailcllips for genneker sheet block ?  There's a stainless steel ring made for this weld on pullpit leg on both sides.

I always put an eight knot on my sheets. The spinnaker sheet are twice the length of the yacht. So if I need to release the sheet I have far enough length to 'deflate' the sail and pull the sheet back when situation is in control.

Hi Stella Novis,

on "The problem is that the newer Hanses do not have any hole in the footrail, so it doesn't work"
I'm suite shure an adapted model to new toerail exists !
Ask to Hanse UK, i remeber having seen it on their site

I read somewhere that the Pfeiffer's piece for toerail has breaking load of 300kgs (it might have been their web page?). However, I know that my friend sailing with Hanse 400 has used them with genoa. I have used them too but for jib and Code 0 (63m2), but don't dare to use them with gennaker (102m2).
I just bought Wichard toerail fittings and can confirm they require some modification to be fitted on 2005 or newer models toerails. I'm still working on it...
