Hi,

I'm thinking about installing a video monitoring system on the boat, so I can sit in my office or anywhere and keep an eye on the boat from my laptop. Last weekend we had some strong winds and had to check the mooring lines frequently during the day. Everything was okay, but in a busy workday it it sometimes difficult to find the nessesary time to drive to the habour.

Does anybody on this forum have any recommendations to this subject?

I have been studying some products from BlueTracker and Paradox.

/Steen

Is there free WiFi available at the boat Steen? If so, this should be fairly easy to rig up. There are some products on the market that would do the trick - originally intended to keep a eye on things inside the house (or keep an eye on the nanny/baby sitter).

Google "Internet Video Monitor"  and you'll see some products.

The key thing is how are you going to link up the camera.  Wifi would be simplest.

You could also use a mobile phone connection - but these are pretty expensive.  Also would also need to be 3G unless you send a still picture at regular intervals.

What do you have available at your mooring?

I belive you got access to Ice.net in Denmark as well as in Norway; this gives you wireless broadband using the same frequences as the old NMT900 cellphone system.

I've got similar plans; using a cheap USB 4ch video input device from eBay,  2-3 cameras and a 12V supplied "minicomputer" (voompc) installed in a hidden location.

With using PC-based technology you're also able to make your own solution, ie. movement detection, SMS alerts, temperature readings, remote control of heater/fridge/bilge pumps etc.
