Has anyone converted the ST40 Lewmar main (halyard) winches to electric on a 350? It looks to me that to do so on the starboard side will reduce headroom in the starboard cabin and will interfere with the overhead light fitting and that there is much more room in the port side head/shower area (my boat has the head on the port side behind the nav table). However if the electric winch has to go on the port side the main and jib halyards will require to be transferred from the starboard winch to the port side, which is probably no problem but will take some getting used to. I would be assisted if anyone has done the conversion to electric on a 350.

I ordered my Hanse 370 with the a manual winch on port and electic winch on starbord. The electric winch does have a box below deck that houses the motor and relay. I do not have the starbord cabin so this is not much of a problem. My winchs are Harkin (did Hanse change for the 350 to Lewmar?). I think you would be disappointed with performance if electric were mounted on port side. As you indicated, the Main and Jib Sheets are on the starbord track so you would need to cross over companion way to sheet these sails. I've tried it when my electric was not working and it adds tention to the lines and did not do a great job. If you select the port side, you may want to consider moving the Main and Jib.
