Hi everybody,

Our New 400 has been delivered ! We tested her last weekend in Holland on 'Het IJsselmeer' and it was just perfect. No problems (yet ;-)), all equipment works well, very good performance, very smooth handling etc... Our dealer (West Yachting in Workum) did a great job and if the service stays as it is now, I can only congratulate them.

This weekend and beginning of next week, we have planned to sail her to Bruinisse. We will be on saturday evening in IJmuiden and on sunday evening in Stellendam, monday afternoon we will arrive in Bruinisse (if everything goes as we expect).

If any of you are in those marina's at that moment, please do not hesitate to knock on our door and have a beer together!

Cheers !
Tom

Yes congratulations on your new boat, she does look great, but then so do all of the models.
What pleases me even more is that you say, so far no problems, and that your agent has worked well.
It is great to hear good stories to counter the bad, prehaps Hanse are starting to get the act together, if so, well done to them.

Spot on Dave,

The Hong Kong dealer took over the business about 6 months ago and is well know in the market for his quality and longterm commitment to his clients. He is working very hard to learn from other Hanse Disti's including the Australian "Hanse Downunder" dealer with a great balance between sales and service and community engagement.

Its now up to me to care for and maintain Angelina in her new condition.

regards
Peter

Peter, Dave...

I just hope the dealer in Holland understood what it is all about. If we are talking about production boats in the same price range, the differences are minor in terms of quality and EACH NEW boat, whatever brand, has minor or bigger problems in the beginning.

The real added value of this kind of brands (besides the fact that Hanse sails much better than all the rest ;-)) is the service in aftersales.

If I read through the discussions in the different fora, I can see a lot of problems that could be solved very fast by the dealer, or even, should be avoided if they just do their job properly.

I sincerly hope that our dealer keeps up the good work, and that it does not stop after delivery... the future will tell us more...

I wish you all a happy sailing season !

Congratulation to your new 400 - she looks great!

We got our new 400 in June last year also with twin steering. You made the right decision to go for this version - it gives you perfect sailing position and at the same time a very free space in the cockpit !

You will enjoy a lot of sailing satisfaction with this model!

Wish you a lot of happiness in sailing and living on your new boat !

Best regards

All the best of luck with your new boat. It looks beautifull and the two wheels really gives it a sporty look! Also happy to hear that your local dealer got positive comments from you. I have the feeling that it is something we do not often hear in this forum.

Good winds and calm water,

I am going to Greifswald 1. november for delivery of new Hanse 400. Is there anything special to look for on the
H 400? Has there been any problems with leaking windows on the later models of h 400?

Posted By: TomVD
Date Posted: 20 October 2010 at 15:35
Hi Alidal,
Congrats with your new H400! Enjoy the delivery!
We were lucky not to have major problems with ours after delivery but however I would check all blocks on deck and see if everything is well secured (we lost a small block, due to two screws that were not well fixed, during our maiden trip). Also check all connections of the hoses. (we had a leak of cooling fluid due to a bad connection at the warm watter boiler wich we only discovered after a few months). For the problems of the windows : this seems to be a problem with models before 2009 who have another type of window(s). However for us it is to early to see if there are any problems like that (as I understood, those problems came only after a year or two...).
Also make sure that the latest software of Simnav is installed (we discovered that most of the simnav software we had, was outdated. Our dealer aranged that somebody of Simnav came (for free) to install the updated software. Good service, but I lost a full morning with it...and had some frustration about buggs that apeared between the different instruments.
Those are the small things we encountered. Not much, and most of it, you can avoid yourself by checking very thoroughly everything when the boat is delivered to you.
Good luck !
Tom

Are you sure you will do the delivery trip in mid November? I would think about it twice.

1. On the day of delivery your boat will not be perfect.
2. You need some days or better 1-2 Weeks in Greifswald to fix some problems - i am sure!
3. Most of the marinas in this time of year will be closed. You may get problems with getting fresh water or eletricity. Myself had this problem this April in Denmark! Nearly every marina was closed -ok we could get into but -  no water and several times no electricity.
4. Be aware to sail in possible fog in this time of year!
5. the airheating from eberspächer is very comfortable (i have it). A big advantage is that it reduces the condesation very much.
6. Daytime is very short in this time of year!
7. If you are an experienced sailor, than you may start your trip. But if not than i would leave the boat in greifswald until spring 2011!

Just a thought

This is the worst scenario, but according to http://www.dmi.dk/dmi/tr10-01.pdf - dmi.dk there is more fog in january, february and march.

Myself is not an experienced sailor, but I am an experienced motorboater. My brother is going with me, and he is a very experienced sailor.

We still have about 10 hours daylight......

I agree with Peter.
We first sailed 2 days around Workum (where our boat was delivered). We left it there during a week and the dealer fixed some minor things. We were lucky that we did not have any big issues but if, for example, your instruments all fail due to a software problem (wich we had a few months after delivery), I would not like to be in foggy circumstances between Greifswald and Denmark...
Anyway... congratulations that you made the step from motoryachting to sailing ! Now you are going to experience the real stuff !

Hi,

It depents maybe where you are going to in Norway. Oslo or the westcoast. If you are going to Oslo I think Øresund and than the Swedish westcoast, Koster ,hvaler is maybe the fastest route but on some legs you haven`t much shelter from the western winds.. Are you going to the West coast Store bælt(Omø, Samsø,Grenå, Sæby, Skagen) on the Danish eastcoast is better and give you more shelter from winds from the west. And of course with western winds it is nice to sail from Skagen to Oslo.

Good luck,

Erno

The draught of my boat is 1,85 and I had no problem in 2007. It is a nice harbour and there were bigger boats than mine there.

I went "aground" outside Barhört, which you will pass on your way from Stralsund, last summer. The charted depth should have been enough but it wasn't. However, running aground is not such a big deal in those waters. It is very soft.

I was there in 2007 too. Nice surroundings and well worth stopping by. In general as Johan mentions, depths are somewhat unreliable. I guess the sand and mud moves a bit with currents over time, still it's rather soft to hit.

You shouldn't have any problem with 2.05m draft.

Congratualtions to your trip. I am happy to know you made it home safe.

Did you have do dive  Confused to get your prop clean again. Must have been pretty cold. Or did you have to knock out a stairway through the ice to get to your prop?Dead

1. Your Host country flag (german flag) is flying on half-mast..............? Maybe your fingers died in that cold weather
2. Same to your flag on port....... You are the first sailor i have ever seen using this flag nowadays. I do not even have one. Funny

Flag "N" has several meanings:

on the water it means "no, or negative"

Flag "N" is (was) used for some bridges to show that you want to have opened the bridge. I never needed it, and i crossed hundrets of bridges in the last 20 years.

The  flag "N" is also used in sailing races if a race is cancelled and everybody has to go back to the start.

There are many more combinations used with this flag.

search for "signalflags" or, if you have a iphone, you can download a free app called "signal Flags Info" for free

But i never needed any of the signalflags so far.

I am now going to mount the diesel heater (Eber D4)
Did anyone have som pictures of the installation?
Both the heater and the heat pipes.
There shall be drilled holes for the pipes, but I could not see anything? I have not studying this so very close, so if anyone know, I would be glad to hear...

I installed it myself in our 370 , also the eber D4
It is very simple and I will try to explane it.
The D4 will be mounted behind the aft cabin on the side from the toilet.
There just under the bed is a predrilled hole from about 90 mm from wer you get under the bed.
Under the bed you split to under the closet to make your way to the point in the aft cabin you blow the hot air in. after that you split this to the last point on that side to the toilet room ( here is a predrilled hole from 70 mm so you can use a tube from 60 mm.
Back to under the bed you split to the onther side off the boat and you run 90 mm tube yust behind the motor to the place were the diesel tank is.
You can run the tube there to the kitchen , and we drilled a few inspection holes in the kitchen storage rooms so we could see were you could pic up the tube.
Then behind the kitchen there is a hole from 90 mm behind the cooling compressor to the dinette bankyou sit on, wel also made a extra storage room behind the place you sit and there is the hole the tube has to go throug.
Then you are under the seat and you can make a point you blow air in to the cabin.
now there is only on point you have to go , and that is the front cabin, and in there is also a pre drilled hole from 70 mm to get a tube trough.
I hope you cab follow , and I will loo for pics tonight to upload.
Greetings Marcel

Hi Tom

Groeten

Dennis

Well done, NikkoClap

I realise this trip was only possible thanks to the (relatively) warm Gulf Stream running past the Norwegian shores - but anyway.Wink

Hello Dennis and Tom,

We have also just moved to Bruinisse with our Hanse 411. We don't have any problem with the sails touching the back stay. I did have the same problem with our toppling lift (kraanlijn). Now I always remove the topping lift when we have hoisted our sails. The sails should not be touching the backstay. That is very strange.

With regards to the heavy hoisting of the sails I fully agree that it is heavy. We have an electrical winch and that is a dream. You could put some silicon spray in the rail of the mast to make the hoisting of the sail easier.

I will be in Bruinisse this weekend. I would be nice to meet up.

Cheers,

Michiel

Hi Tom, looks fantastic and I'm sure you will have many happy days sailing, I must also say that the dealership in Sydney Australia did a great job with my handover and the service since. Regards Stephen
