My 371 did not come with spinnaker gear, and want to add it. Only issue is how is the lead to the foreguy arranged? I assume a block in the middle of the foredeck. Any reinforceing needed? Is there a solid section of the deck ready for the block, or am I going to have to peel out some core and reinforce myself?

Hi 371-#122,

My 371 came with the spinn package option, however, they didn't mount a foredeck padeye for the foreguy block. I mounted a Wichard folding padeye on the foredeck just back from the anchor locker opening on the foredeck. When you open the anchor locker and reach backwards under the edge, you'll notice about 6 inches of deck that you can access to mount reinforcements under the padeye. I used aluminum backing plates.

To run the foreguy back to an extra rope clutch on the coachroof, I used a stanchion mounted deadeye like the ones that came with the furler. I simply attached it to one of the inverted "u" shaped ss brace mounts for the jib's self tacking track. The line goes from the block attached to the new padeye to this new deadeye and from there to a coachroof rope clutch without touching any fibreglass. I now have the pole topping lift line and the foreguy line beside each other in clutches - works well.

Nice to have a forum like this to get such guidance - quite a distance to get to the nearest 371 for a check on how they do it!

For the downhaul I would recommend that you go along the coachroof close to Genoawinches (on both sides) because whenever you adjust the spinnakerpole with the sheet (guy) you would need to adjust the downhaul.

Hi all,

371#220 has the main mounted in the cockpit.We mounted a Wichard saddle in the centre of the foredeck,there is a metal plate set in the deck,much better if you are end for end gybeing.

We lead the control line back through the deck organiser to a swivel cam cleatmounted where the main sheet track is normally. Wealso have an extra 4 to1 purchase on the vang which leads back to the same setup on the port side,frees uup a clutch and much qicker than useing a clutch.
