I am in the market to buy a new sail boat. I have been looking to the Hanse 545, Dufour Grand Large 525, and I just saw the Beneteau Sense 50, which is a new concept (have a look on the net! pretty cool). I am a little bit confused now... All the boats are priced with 10% of price difference from each other. So, price is not much an issue. But, quality is one.
I have read few "bad service", "bad quality" experiences on the net. Can any one be a help to me? Regards. |

Thanks. I sailed the dufour 525, and the Hanse 545. I really liked the Hanse. It's just that, some one told me dufour is better quality. As in they use real wood, rather plastic composits. Their teak deck is thicker etc etc... So, it left some question marks...

Hi, My opinion is that the Hanse offers better value. The money in Hanse is in the design and the hull+deck construction. The Dufour has better furniture and fittings quality. And the Hanse sails muuuuuuch better. ------------- Panos Hanse 630e - selling her - |

| Thanks. The problem is, other boat dealers keep telling me horror stories on Hanses. How bad is the finish, quality (copared to Jenneau, dufour, beneteu...). Since I do not know much about Hanse, I have to rely on your (Hanse owners) to tell me how you feel about it. They also keep tellling me that Hanse will not hold second hand value etc.... Any views? |

3 Years ago i was on search for my new boat. I was at the Duesseldorf boatshow. First i was at the dehler stand. The dealer told me that dehler is the best Quality you can get and Hanse veeeeeeery bad quality. Now 3 year later - Dehler went bankrupt and was bought by Hanse, i met the same dealer on the Düsseldorf boat show again. Now he sells Hanse Yachts. What did he tell me this year? :"Hanse is very good quality" Never ask a dealer about a competing product! ---------------------- But to be honest, Hanse could do better, but the same could be said to every production boat builder ------------- Blake 370

I have the same experience as Peter Blake - a long time friend is a boat broker. Over the years he's sold Catalina, Hanse, C&C, Bavaria,.... in typical salesman fashion, the current make represented is the best ever... The fact of the matter is, in this price range, they all have their problems. It doesn't matter which one you buy expect to have warranty issues on some things that are so basic you have to scratch your head. However, after all is said and done, if you bought a Hanse then you will have a better performing boat.

Do not forget, if you buy a hanse, you will have the most powerful and helpful www-forum. I do not know any other brand with such a activ forum!

Dear Kerim, I’m just back from a trip so I didn’t see your post before, as everyone say the boat is very performing and easy to handle specially alone comparing to the competitor, my 540 is my second Hanse I had a 470 before and the transition was very easy still sailing single, for the quality if what you get for your money and is acceptable at the end the most important as everyone say in deferent post is to chose a good/right dealer since the factory has no legal responsibility your contract is with a dealer so take care of the dealer, personally I have a good one (Jetty Marine) and has make the impossible for me Good look ------------- Jörg 540#251 |

Thanks.... I am now a hopefully happy owner f a 545. yeyy!!!....
Decided to go with UK dealer and I have asked to add Aura Yachting in Turkey to help for comissioning and later warranty issues. I know them both. They are very good... Also thanks to all, I hope to avoid small problems.... |

Helo, It will be very helpfull if you can compare 470 to 540 sailing performance. I have been heard that 470 is like sport car comparing to 540 transporter, +50% weight +20% sail area. 540 is a great sailing boat concept with a lot of space, but I doubt that she is true performance cruiser :( |

Hi, No doubt the ratios are different has you have mentioned but applicable only in very light wind condition the 470 start quicker and you can feel any wind variation, the 540 (have long keel 2,80m) has more or less same sensation but need more fine tuning and start to enjoy above 6 knots of wind and for sure perform better than a normal cruiser in same size, as you say one feel more sportily the other as plenty space, at ease in the sea and specially is more comfortable. To give you an idea yesterday with 12/13 knots at +/- 55° true wind I was doing 8-8.5knot with the 540, edge to edge with some friends one Grand Soleil 56 (with pour antifouling) and one brand new X46

Hello Tough choise all of these boats seems to be excellent choises, i completely agree with you in the end of the day evreything has to do with the after sales service , thus have a look and investigate which one is the dealer that can follow up your boat propperly. Regards Trimix |
