We left the Carribean Islands in January 2010, sailing for Los Roques, islands to the north of Venezuela, some 300 odd miles away. Due to the rapidly changing security situation in the area, we sailed quite a way north of the rhumb line. Fortunately for us, Los Roques and Les Aves did not present any security issues and we were able to relax and enjoy this majestic part of the world. We really hope that situation remains as it is such a worthwhile place to visit on your way across the Carribean sea. The video link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfz4ueMt0ac and the blog link is

Hi mate, we used the same sized lures all the way from Las Palmas on recommendation from the other cruisers there. They are about 10 inches long with multi colours. The dorado seemed to like the green ones and all the other varieties liked the pink and purple ones. The marlin took them as well and as we didnt want to damage them, we simply cut the line and let them go, lure and all!! Didn't like losing the lures but the thrill of catching marlin more than compensated for that and we knew that the lures would soon drop out of their bills. Cheers
