Hi,

This morning I logged on to find that a spammer was actively spamming the site with large volumes of posts. This was having an adverse performance impact on our other main sales sites and so we took down myHanse in order to stabilise our web servers and get our corse sites back online.

Once that work was completed we have now upgraded the myHanse.com site to the latest version of WebWiz forum.

There are some features (such as picture upload) that are not working at this moment but should be fixed shortly. There are also a lot of new features that I have not really looked at yet.

If you have any other issues please either post them in this topic, or email help@myhanse.com

Thanks,

Jonathan

Thanks and lets hope this solves the spamming problem.  Its never easy working as a system administrator.  If it works you get no thanks and if it does not, well...

If this does not improve the situation could I suggest we have an application/vetting process for members prior to admitting them as being able to post?  That should hopefully stop the casual spammer that we've seen over the past weeks.

Nice to get back to normal again.

MyHanse is a superb world wide site and is certainly one of the very best sites of it's kind. Attacks by spamming fools are always difficuly to repel, and I don't have the technical expertise to make any other suggestion other than to suggest perhaps that a small annual subscription be introduced to help maintain the site, and also to discourage such activity such as spamming and suchlike.

Regards,

John

aaaaaaargh, no please, no no charging...................
I am sure Jonathan, has/will sort it... Thumbs Up
To be honest, in the past, I have seen people moaning about the spammers and the webmaster, ( and yes it is annoying and troublsome) but as someone said, when all is working well, very few people congratulate the Webmaster, but when there is a problem, critisism of him is high, even down to suggesting that the forum be taken away from him.
How sad. I think we should let Jonathan just get on and do the things he has to do when he can do them, and be grateful that he does..........

Thanks Jonathan

What a relief that you took action on this.Clap

Hopefully no charged subscription to this forum will ever be needed. Most of our problems (or some of them at least) could probably be solved with a suitable verification procedure when setting up members profiles.

I have three issues:

Some of my pictures are gone. My best guess is that the new software does not recognize the Swedish letters Ã¥, ä and ö.

The Swedish section cannot be read because these three letters are changed into incomprehensible symbols.

My signature is acting up. Every time I try to change it my website link goes awkward. I am not able to display all letters.

Other than that I just want to let you know that your work is much appreciated, Jonathan!

Now all the letters are displayed but I cannot get rid of the "<".

Hi Johan,

I have now changed the encoding settings for the site so you should have character support for all of your pics and posting.

The other issue you are having with the < I have worked out. You are only allowed 200 characters for your signature. I can find no way of changing this at the moment. Your signature required a </A> at the end and I suspect the method you are using shows it, but when you save it only 200 characters are saved and so you end with a <

Hope that helps.

Jonathan

Hi

Would it be possible to have a link to active topics since last login placed top on main page?

The page still works but I can't find the link.

Again Super work Johathan. Working overtime or are you in Asia?

H8jer, you will find that the Active topics button is now a "New posts" button.

My signature is sorted. I had to shorten it a bit.

The Swedish section is now ok but the three Swedish letters I talked about in my previous post (that came out right when I wrote them) changed to the strange symbols. Let me try again: å ä ö Å Ä Ö.

Current boat is a great addition to the profile!

So the letters work now, but Ole's signature looks weird.

And I am looking forward to when we can upload pictures.

Having been the webmaster on a simple web site on my local sailing club I can partly appreciate the effort required in keeping MyHanse going.   I have learnt so much from the site since buying my 341 2 years ago, so it congratulations to those involved.

I am sure there are some things which seem awkward on a new version, just because they are different, but one point I found useful was being able to search forums in forward or reverse date order.  On first glance this seems to be missing.   Am I missing something?

Jonathon, it is a bit disapointing to see still the posts for watches, handbags, etc from the spammers, is this something we now have to accept all the time? Especially after your work to install the new software........

Dear Webmaster
I have been a forum member for 6 years , but have noted that I not been receiving the usual plethora of emails from the 315 forum for the past few months.
Please let me know how I reinstate the mailings
