I have the 311 and the pad-eye for both the main-sheet and the backstay seem rather undersized.  Neither one has any plate, there are just a couple of screws holding them in. I looked in my quarter berth and the under side of the cockpit and there is a very, very small metal plate and 2 bolts holding my main-sheet down.

Does anyone know how much force each piece can take?  Or what the breaking point is?  I have upgraded my blocks for the backstay and main-sheet to ones that have a break point of 5,000 LBS (U.S pounds).  Can the stock pad-eye's take that much?

Thanks.

Have you any chance to enlarge them, is there enough space beside?

I dont think that the padeye itself would make any Problem. I also have some bad feelings about my backstay fittings: I'm going to put on a large aluminium plate under it an fill everything with high densitiy Epoxy Filler. That is enough for that I believe. For the mainsail: I will have a long Traveller on my boat but I would also use a plate or bigger sheaves unter the mainsheet padeye too.

I had both the mainsheet pad-eye and the backstay pad-eye upgraded to a much heavier duty material.   Both are far stronger than any of my blocks, backstay or the mainsheet itself now.

Now my next upgrade is new sails since the East Sails that come with the boat are fair but not designed for heavy weather.

I can still offer a original North-Sails jib from my Hanse 312. Brand new, unused!

Heiko, for your 16:1 backstay: Have you mounted an extra padey or do you have just one per side?

Regards Thomas.
