Hi to everyone.
I have a 325 and I am trying to install the autopilot.
Can you please tell me where is the autopilot box and fluxgate compass installed?
Also do you have any pictures of the Jefa drive unit and rudder feedback installation layout?
Thanks

Hi there!

Inside the big compartment on the port side there is three hatches on the bottom. Two in the front and one in the back. The one in the back is were the compass is installed. If you post a picture of the autopilot box I might be able to tell you where that is installed also.

I can also post some pictures of the drive unit , but not until after this weekend.

Cheers!

Hi Magnus
I havent thought of installing the compass in that compartment. Good idea.
I have the AC-12 autopilot. I am thinking installing it inside the electric switches compartment in the salon.
I would appreciate if you could post some pictures of the drive unit, since I cannot find any other 325-320 to have a look.
Thanks allot.

Your welcome!

I will try to locate the AC-12 unit and take photos of all the components and where they are installed on my boat.

Will do it this sunday!

Cheers!

Magnus,
Your installation looks like a genuine factory fitting

One thing you may wish to think about is that the Jeffa unit is not very watertight...  They had to replace my motor due to water getting into the factory install.  No quibble with them they just sent out the new bits.

Although they are really good I think they are designed to be installed in a less exposed place. I can't move mine so I've librally covered it in sealer.  It went through last season without problems so I guess it is now watertight.

Magnus if you have more photos please send them, they can only help.
I am especially ingterested on how the angle measuring unit is secured next to the rudder.
Thanks again

Somewhere have I read that one way to improve the sealing is to put Sikaflex (or similar stuff) around the electrical cables to reduce the risk that water get inside the Jefa driver.

I have done that on our driver even though it is more protected and mounted upside down close the rudderstock.

I even put Sikaflex sealing on all screws on the driver aswell, maybe overkill but better be safe than sorry.

Skipper is right.  Sikaflex will improve.
I remember one old thread on this forum.  Jefa answered directly saying that their DD drive was improved since HANSE fit them "outside".  I think JEFA called it DD (MK II) and the casing is a bit different.

So here is how my auto pilot installation turn out
(Thanks again to Magnus)

Since there are many reports for problems to the motor due to moisture here is what I did.
Used two reinforced plastic plates to raise the motor (so that water can pass underneath) and covered all parts joints with special sealing tape. I hope it will be no problem cause it will be very painful to open the motor.

And here is the autopilot. I have made a case to protect it, from items stored in the storage room (fenders, ropes, oars etc)

I am installing the EV-1 autopilot on my 325. Where did you find the A/C cables from the electric switchboard? Also, did you find any pre-drawn Simnet cables that you could use to connect the compass or did you have to fit new cables.

Noticed one thing on the images that is against the technical recommendation from both Jefa and nowadays also from Hanse yard. There should be NO earth cable (yellow green) connected to the rudder arm, the reason is to reduce the risk of galvanic problem on the alu rudderstock.

Is there any technical bulletin or something like that regarding the earth cable?
(I also have this on my H400 from 2010)

A technical bulletin exists (at least it should exists).
My 2011 Hanse 355 was delivered with the same earth cable.
During warranty works early 2012, without any demand from me, my dealer came aboard and opened the floor hatch to see if I had an earth cable connected.  He told me that he was ORDERED by Hanse to remove it after a notice from JEFA.
So since then I have no more earth cable connected to rudder shaft.

Is it possible to post the bulletin from HANSE or JEFA?
I have a 2012 325 that has this grounding cable.
I have checked a 2013 325 and a 2013 345 and they both have the same cable.
So either HANSE didnt know it then or they are slow to pass it to their production.
I wonder since the rudder is connected to the autopilot motor with metal rods and the motor is connected to the electrical system, what is the point of removing the grounding cable? Maybe the recall is for boats without autopilot.
Can someone confirm that the recall was for boats equipped with autopilot?

Google translate from Danish....
As for the grounding of your rudder strain, we strongly recommend you to remove it. The only increases the risk of corrosion in the rudder trunk.

Hi Fiona,

I'm very interested in autopilot install, as I would like to have one in my Hanse 350 this spring. So if you have more picture pls send 'm to me.
Hope the forum allows them to be sent to my mail account directly: hvanleeu@gmail.com.

One question: I see that the rudder feedback is between the rudder and the drive. Is there enough space?

Thanks a lot,
