Hi1
I am a bit frustrated with the single point sheting point for the main sail.
Since there are not alot of posts in this section I searched the 320 section and there was 6 pages on this subject. The thing is, even though there are a number of sucessful installations of treveller on the 320, when I looked at my 325 there is no way to fit one on top of the benches whitout hitting the compass part of the pedistal with the main sheeting. The only place I found was on the floor right where the single point are today, the width at that point is 82,5 cm. The question is, is that enough or will there be absolutly no difference? Can you achive the same twist with just the vang and the single point sheeting? Any ideas, suggestions???

Cheers!

Magnus

Quite honestly i believe that if i really cranked the necessary pressure on my vang my boom would break.
That scenario has happened with some cabin top mainsheets on certain models as recorded in this forum
So moving the forces still further forward would really be detrimental to the boom
I have fitted some sacrificial shackles between top vang block & boom & i have broken them on at least 6 occasions
I was berthed along side a Parker 31 & noted that the boom on that boat was at least 50% deeper & slightly fatter
The 315 boom looks decidedly skinny in comparison. I suspect your boom is comparable to mine

I do not know how your boat is laid out but have you considered some sort of adjustable rope bridle across the cockpit or cabin top or would that restrict movement too much

i have a hanse 325 with a mainsheet traveller on top of the seats in front of the pedestal and mainsheet does not catch on the pedestal or compass....the mainsheet is attached to underside of boom on the forward saddle

Hi Michael!
I just realized that you can have the sheeting a bit further in towards the front on the boom just like you have it.

Did you fit the traveller your self or was it done by Hanse?
Can you tell me alittle about how it is fitted, what make it is etc.
Is it bolted through the re-enforcement or tapered in it?

Cheers!

Hi Magnus,

the traveller was supplied by hanse, i will look on friday when i am at the boat, to see what the make is......the traveller appears to be bolted on top of the seat but i will check...i also got the purchase increased on the mainsheet

The traveller is tapered in alu re enforcement plate fitted in laminate (2 rectangular plates on both side).

You can also look to a nice retrofit solution on a H320 by Drumduff :  http://www.myhanse.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=7119&PN=2&title=mainsheet-removable-traveller" rel="nofollow - http://www.myhanse.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=7119&PN=2&title=mainsheet-removable-traveller

I currently work / think on upgrading my H 355.  I've already put a pad eye on cockpit floor.  Later I will add a removable traveller fitted on bench coamings and a bottle screw on the pad eye.

Brufan!
Is that not a bit risky to just have the traveller is tapered in alu re enforcement plate?
But it would be the easiest way to do it...

Btw what is the padeye for?
(btw. you donīt want to buy my cockpit cushions for the 355?)

Cheers!

Fiona,
As far as i know ALL tracks on our Hanse are fitted this way.  Even the stong self-tacking jibsheet traveller is.  In fact all (or so) fittings are done this way even winches, clutches, deck organisers, windlass, anchor fitting, ... (not certain about steeringwheel pedestal but I found no nut from now)
Only pushpit and pullpit legs has nuts and contersunk.

The padeye (or chainplate indeed) is for mainsheet.  I did the same as Bjoris (see here :  http://www.myhanse.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3564&title=mailsail-sheet" rel="nofollow - http://www.myhanse.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3564&title=mailsail-sheet ) but may chainplate is fitted further aft.  I've put it just under where optional mainsheet track (wich I don't have) should go.

Why are you selling your cockpit cushions ?  You can PM me.

Hi Magnus,

The traveller is made by Lewmar

The traveller is not bolted in....there is a triangular cross section slot on the underside of the traveller track.

There must be lugs of some sort glassed in underneath the seat that stick up to slide into the triangular slot to hold the track in place

Underneath the seat there is a wooden block glassed in ,so I presume the lugs are attached to that

I haven't explained it very well I hope you understand what I mean !

If you put a wooden block underneath your cockpit seats at the right place I'm sure you could attached the traveller track somehow

Thank you Michael!

You answered my question. I got a PDF file showing all reinforcements on the 325, What I was wondering was if the yard just tapered the reinforcement and bolted the traveller just to that.
Now I now they didnīt. On the treveller there are either bolt holes or a triangular slot as you describe. What they have done is to drill holes through the reinforcement and slided the bolt in to the triangular slot (the bolts can slide but not turn) and then they have nuts and washers underneath the reinforcement. The wooden block is just there to cover the holes (or the cutout) in the inliner. Even if it has been suggested on the 320 pages and by Bruno that tappering the  reinforcement would probably hold the traveller. I will not be the first to try,,, I rather have some nicely covered holes in my inliner instead.

Cheers!

Magnus

P.S Michael! If you find the time and are willing to make the effort, I would love if you can take a picture of the inliner underneath the traveller on the starboard side ( in the rear salon). So I can se how they have covered it,,,

Well I did it anyway...

I went for a low beam Rutgersson traveller reinforced with a 30X50mm teak beam and tapered on the aluminum reinforcement below the seats.

It looks qiute ok. and I was convinced by both Hanse, my rigger and my fateher inlaw that this will hold. Canīt wait to go out and try it out.

Will buy a new jib and try out a so called 3D sheeting for that...

Here is a pic (I have plugged the holes for the old pad eye now with teak plugs)

Cheers!

Dear Sylvie,

I am just configuring my hanse 325 before signing up purchase contract with dealer. I noticed fine steering wheel on pic of your yacht. Looks like carbon or the like. Can you provide me information what is this wheel? Thanks in advance.

Hi Michael!

It goes by the name of inf**ker!!!! Google it and you`ll see (if you dare)

Instead of a traditional traveller you install blocks to do barberhaul in and out resp. up and down haul.

Tha gives you sheeting in several directions eg. 3 D

I will post pictures in the spring when Iīm done.

Hello Michael,

thanks for reply and let me apologize for wrong naming in my previous message. What is a diameter of the wheel?

PS Do you know anyone at forum who has H 325 with short keel?
