I am looking for new hatches to my 400 2006. Both hatches to the gas bottle box are broken and I can not just find the hatch. It seems like i need to buy everything hatch + box?!

Did anyone replace the hatch yet? Where did you buy it and at what price?

Below is a link to the producers webpage but I can not find the hatch - only.

I would write to them " customer service teams able to grant a capillary coverage ".I recall that they were part of the Plastimo group which went belly up. The Greek Salizas company apparently picked some of the pieces up.
If you can get the hatch as a spare from them, suggest you buy two. It looks as if their raw material is not really resistant to sunlight. UB resistant ABS material can easily cost the double.

Hi Frank,

I already wrote to Nouvo Rade but no reply. I am hoping there should be some alternative to their hatch and given the quality I believe all of us needs to change this hatch sooner or later.

The hatches on both sides (I have 2 gas bottles) are worn out probably by the sun and I wonder how the hatches stands the sun in areas like Aurstralia and in the Med.

Attaching picture of the poor quality.

I am not so sure who exact the company is today. Nuoca Rade and Lalizas have taken parts from plastimo... But you cannot buy direct from them. Only if you are in the marine industrie you can buy there.

I know that http://www.svb.de" rel="nofollow - http://www.svb.de is a reseller of their products. I cannot find the exact product in their catalog, but i am sure they can order it! http://www.svb24.com/en/storage-box-installation-niche.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.svb24.com/en/storage-box-installation-niche.html

I am pretty sure you will not find the hatch only. The box itself will make the product only some cents more expensive. In our times it is easier to produce the complete box with the hatch instead of selling parts of it. Not very ecologically but very economical for the manufacturer.

I found one of these kind (design) of hatch at marinemegastore.com one year ago.  Mine was not for gas locker but design is exactly the same as shown.
Hopes this helps.

I do not think replasing with the same is very smart.....
It will break again very fast , it broke at our boat after 3 years and it still is broken
I will problably search for a better replacement .
Btw on every hanse in our harbour these hatches are broken!
Greetings Marcel

Marcel,

My hatch also broke after 3-4 years. As you say I will try to get a better model. I will check with HR Marin according to Idelfixs suggestion and try to investigate what quality it is made of.

Buying two new hatch+boxes every third year is not on my to do list :-)

Both hatches are broken on my H400e of 2006 too. Looks like the plastic they are made of was totally cooked by UV's. Been looking for a plausible replacement for a year without success. I'd rather change only the door, IMHO changing the whole box would be quite a pain. I'm thinking about an 8mm plexi with brass hinges, but have not worked out the lock yet...

Hello Sulutime,

It would have been very interesting to see your invention and solution with the plexi. However - I guess I will have placed an order before you are ready :-)

I spoke with the swedish agent today and they are telling me that there are different qualities of the plastic material. Classic - the rubbish I and you have and then there is a model named Top line.

Now I just need to find a competitive price and I will order the box and hatch nuovo rade article no 196257. I saw that you could buy them for around 80-97 in France.

The swedish agant told me that the hatch is glued with the box and nearly impossible to separate. Much easier to change the compleet box.

Plastimo was allways known for cheap junky plastic parts, which fail after exposure to sunlight.
Replacing the hatch with a plexi ( PMMA ) part is one solution, however be aware that the frame will most likely crack soon thereafter.

I suggest that you search the camper market for a replacement of the whole gas bottle box. Campers do have the same need to store bottles and spares preventing gas toleak inside.
Furthermore all camping equipment is much more realistically priced due to volume and demand.

All very valuable inputs.
However - as the Top Line model should be much superior to the Classic Line I will go for 2xTL. Price in Sweden around 110 euro each as they deducted the price for 2014. I know that the size will fit to the H400 and I doubt that the camper boxes are much cheaper.

I think the quality of the hatches are already on the better sider compared to eg Bavaria (with their own logo). However: still not good enough!

It is a sh.... solution and difficult to change!

Hi Jean Marie,

Interesting. Do you have any price indication?

As far as I know the box are more or less of the same material. I tested once an osculati product and you have to be careful that the box incl. the valve fits in. As far as I know the normal valve is too high for the osculati box

I've replaced one of them last year and spent about 70 euro in Italy. It's impossible to replace only the lid, you need all the box. About one hour of hard work. Ciao!

Frizzz - I guess you have found the cheapest store. Is it a webshop or some local place in Italy?
Can you pls share the website?

One hour is nothing compared with other project you might find on our vessels.

I've followed the discussion with interest. I have exactly the same problem with the gas locker doors on my 2007 400. I wasn't clear from the correspondence though whether anyone has successfully fitted replacement lockers. The sizes of the non-Plastimo products seemed to be slightly different to that originally installed by Hanse. And I agree that it makes sense to replace with a better product if possible.

Can anyone confirm the satisfactory replacement? And if so the specific gas locker model (& supplier)?

Many thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

I bought two new and replaced the old gas boxes.
Measurement is slightly different from the old but fits PERFECT. You can even use the old screws.

Good luck!

Hello Morgan

May I ask for your help again? I've tried to contact Nuovarade/Lalizas via the website and by phone without success.

Do you by any chance have a contact number (or even better) an email address that I could use?

Incidentally, can you explain what an "interrupted gasket" and a "whole gasket" is? I assume that I need the "interrupted" version.

Many thanks for all your assistance.

Richard

Hi Richard,

I guess you need the inerrupted gasket as it will allow the gas to pass through the gas box (in the bottom) and out in the free air if there will be a leak in the connections to the gas bottle.

Pls check with your marinestore - they would know.

Thanks for all the advice here. In the end I purchased 2 no Osculati lockers (http://www.osculati.com/fr/cat/Scheda.aspx?id=22517) from Marine Megastore in the UK. Including delivery charges they cost £169 in total.

They are much better constructed than the original Plastimo products and fit very well. They don't come with restraining straps for the bottles and I will probably re-use the old Plastimo ones.

If I could manage to do so I'd post photos. The lockers have been fitted so that the doors are hung on the aft edge, ie the doors open out over the transom. A little easier to use.

Best wishes

Richard
