As I will be taking over my new Hanse 385 in a months time the only thing that i haven't done so far is sorted out bimini. I have been on 3 Hanse 385 so far and looked at number of biminis but none so far suit me as either they are not high enough and I have to slightly bend(I am 187 cm) or when folded my head keeps hitting it while at helm.
The only solution that I came up with is to make a custom bimini and in that respect i would be grateful for any comments and suggestions. |

The only one that makes sense is one that stops short of the boom, anything that fits under the boom is too low to sail with. We didn't bother, but we have a pole biinimi for when we are moored up or anchored ------------- 385 ubulukutu sail number GBR 3350L in Turkey and Greece with Mark and Catherine |

I am lucky that I choose not to go with the crappy one Hanse (W&R) is offering as an option ex factory. Furthermore the yard solution prevented you from steering from the side. My solution has been discussed and refined with a local specialist, better fabric and thicker tubes.
First of all it extends behind the backstay covering you also when you are at the helm. Secondly I can fold it away and then stand under it easily. I also have detachable aft and side extensions.
Price was same as Yard option but quality way better ------------- Frank |

Here is my solution; it's covering only the helmsman area when sailing but there is an extension linking the front of the bimini top with the rear of the sprayhood that comes handful when moored. the boat is a 345 and I am over 190cm tall. there is a French canvas maker who has this solution ready for several boat models (NV equipment) or else you can ask to a local supplier who can easily arrange one fitting your own requirements.  |
