Hi everyone,

After receiving my new 575 earlier this summer, I realized a stern thruster would be necessary. Does anyone have experienced installing such a device on a new 575?
Any tip? problem? good result? what brand?
I'm new on this forum and am very interested in all the comments I have read so far.
I learned a lot but will still have other question to ask.
Thanks all!

We ordered stern thruster on 445 and Hanse installed Quick model. It is by far one of the best options we ordered. It is very effective up to winds of, say, 20 knots on our 44ft.
Yes we have heard opinions that thrusters are for those who do not know how to operate the boat properly but while learning all the tricks next to hard concrete it is extremely comforting to have stern and bow thrusters at the ready.
Once it did not close fully but I found that the stopper nut was not tighten at the yard to it was a quick fix.

I have found the Quick bow thruster on my 445 very valuable.

But I also found this web site http://mdschool.com provides some really useful information that can increase your confidence in manoeuvring under power.

Hi Konsatantin,

Do you have any photo about the stern thruster installation you have? Is is retractable or fixed into it's position? Is it attached under the bottom or does in hang from transom. I have seen pictures where it is attached  below swiming platform and can be turned down from there.

Best Regards

Boomjack,

We ordered our 575 with both stern and bow thrusters knowing that they would be very handy in confined marinas especially since the 575 have such a high freeboard. We have the Quick thrusters with a dual controls. So it is possible to have one thruster in one direction and the other in the other to spin the boat in its own length.

As we have been in lots of small, shallow marinas and we have used both thusters often and have not had any issues with them. The power seems to be enough for reasonably strong winds - around 18-20 kn.

I would think your best option is to retro fit a stern Quick retractable thruster and their dual control unit. The stern is too shallow to fit an exterior mounted thruster.

I think you would find the  addition of a stern thruster would great increase your manouvouring capabilities. Retro fitting could be an expensive process but then again so can be the damage caused to your boat or worst still someone else's boat.

Kari, our installation is very simple - a hole under the port stern bed where the thruster is installed. Something similar to this - http://www.quicknauticalequipment.com/?lng=en&cs1=01&ms1=2&ms2=6&ms3=76&ms4=250
Very clean and easy installation, all parts accessible. Here's how it looks.
