It is well documented my interest in sailing with World Cruising organises of the ARC.
Next year I am thinking of joining there new Baltic trip.
1. If anyone has experience of this trip please let me know; the best info I have is off Swagman who continues his blog although he sold his 460 a few years ago and now has a little American number, either way he was on the event and writes a good blog.
2. If anyone wants to crew, i would like to put 2 or 3 like minded people in place for all or part of trip plus delivery to and from Kiel.
like minded is enjoys sailing and social but does not take life too serious.
3. Any other Hanse or Myhanse or anyone else on the rally for next year.

Simon

Simon,

I did not do the Baltic ARC last year but know someone who did and they said their only real criticism was that the schedule was a bit too tight which meant that the slower/smaller boats were arriving at ports with just enough time to look after boat and domestic duties and not much time to enjoy the surrounds. They did have lots of positive comments- well organised, great ports, good bunch of people on the rally etc.

we cant do next year but might in later years.  I agree the schedule looks tight, on the Red Sea rally we are on, we spend a lot of time ashore and socialising which adds to the fun.  But it is nice to have everything organised for us, so that might tempts us to go.

Just watched the scedule. This is definatly not a scedule for cruising! it is about making a lot miles! Not enough time for the visits. I definalty would not consider it for me and my family, maybe for some real tough friends without my family.....
The scedule is ok for cruising if the wind is nice and espeacially from the right direction. But therefore they need a lot luck!

Peter,
I agree with everything you say.
My preference is towards the sailing, and will try to crew with that in mind.
1800 miles in 6 weeks or 300 miles a week, this is a trip with for people who enjoy the sailing.
An average of 40 miles a day. this is not for the faint hearted.
Compounded by we may have to sail over night a few times and possibly sail a few days in to strong head winds, this is a trip for people who prefer sailing to other activities.
But it is a sailing rally.

I've just looked at this, looks like an endurance test to me. If I took my wife on this divorce would be certain. Several trips of over two hundred miles.

Steve,
You quote your engine hours at 2300.
I regret my engine hours are below 1000.

Looks like the door is closing for entries to this rally at the end of the week.
2 Hanse on 20 boats is not bad.
Will try to keep a blog posted.

Looking at the route. Those of you who have not experienced a real bureacratic welcome be aware that entering Russia is not a picknik. You have to come and go & proceed exactly accordng to minute schedule given beforehand with lot of WHF reporting.  No matter what is the weather or traffic conditions. There is lot of ships coming / going from St. Petersburg via narrow channels and you have to follow also the given route exactly. Custom issues takes a day and all boats do not necessarily fit to the custom harbour. Safety may also be an issue there, but if you have a good organizer and local host like in case of ARC this is probably ok. Sailing culture and all duties is just completely different than elsewhere in Baltic. While there St- Petersburg is a beatutilful city. We do sometimes, but seldom due to the complexity, escaders from Finland to St. Petrsburg. Although it is a short way from here we start preparing a year before. I didnt yet go there. It is not impossible and in an organized group of boats it is easier and safer.

Lippe ,
You confirm what I have read on Russia; the organisers have it all in hand we hope.
The shipping around St. Peters is another thing I have read of , also bureaucrats .

I have played games with the authorities in the Carib, this can be slow and time consuming, I will see how Russsia compares.

Will I see you on our Finish leg ?
