Afternoon all,
My 2014 415 is due for annual re antifoul and am in course of obtaining quotes for removal of antifoul and substrate from keel and antifoul from hull. The antifoul used is an ablative type, Altex no 5- and Trilux of course at rudder shaft area and sail drive surrounds with prop speed on the leg and props. I unsuccessfully tried to fix up a number of small areas on the keel where removal of shell last year left holes to bare metal together with areas on the bulb where a chain had rubbed areas on the top. I contacted technical section of Altex who advised below and hence my decision to only do full keel strip. “Regarding the iron keel, we would recommend a seal coat of Altra~Lock 576, followed by 2-3 roller coats of Altex Epoxy Barrier Undercoat, then No.5 Antifouling. The hull sections would require adhesion testing with Altex Epoxy Primer as epoxies does not mix well with viny ester resin – if tests results meets your requirements, then proceed with Altex Epoxy Primer, followed by 2-3 roller coats of Altex Epoxy Barrier Undercoat, then No.5 Antifouling.” Realistically my hull does not need doing being ablative paint since original launch and also cleaned by a diver several times each year has reduced build up. My question is, Can anyone share their experiences with me regarding similar work please? Peter |
