Hi Sailors.
Does anyone know how to remove the cover over the saloon hatch (reason to install life raft)?

There are a couple of screws in the area over the companionway sliding hatch. Remove the traveller. Other than that, it is simply sikoflexed in place!  I remember posting some pictures of the process in the past. You carefully cut & chisel the existing sealant out of the groove around the hatch. Pass a line through the drain holes side to side then use that line to give you some grip to lift it. You can use a block and winch if you are brave! :)

It does need persistence to scrape away the sealant using a variety of tools. It doesn’t release easily.

I mounted a solar panel in that position. Eventually got a 90W panel on there.

Remember if you mount a raft there it will be mostly held on by glue!

Hei Atle - I'd seriously stress Mark's last sentence; this location is perfectly ok to mount a solar panel but is no way near strong enough for a raft. One strong wave will see it ripped off together with your hatch cover - which may then cause further damage.

There's a few threads on this forum that discuss the best (or really the 'least worst') location for rafts; try the advanced search function above.  However, in my firm opinion, on top of the hatch is downright dangerous unless you're always going to sail in sheltered waters - in which case do you really need a raft at all?
