Topic: Retrieving main sheet on Hanse 415Posted: 30 November 2025 at 17:24 |

Hi,
Have just purchased a Hanse 415. There was no knot at the end of the main sheet and it ran back through the clutch back to the gooseneck. I need to retrieve the sheet back to the clutch but it goes through a "tunnel" back to the clutch. Is there an easy way to do this without removing the tunnel and half the bimimi? Any help greatly appreciated

Try a sail batten, some sturdy tape, and a boroscope-type camera.

Tape some thin mousing line to the aft end (by the clutch) of the adjacent halliard / sheet. Pull that halliard forwards to the mast so the mousing line emerges under the halliard cover. It will come through the same turning block or diverter as the halliard you have attached it to but with a metal coat hanger shaped like a hook you should be able to fish it back out and round the correct diverter. Then you can use this to pull the main sheet back though

Just a heads up. There may other unseen line guides under the cover which may be missed with this method.

Good point! I can confirm on my 418 in a few weeks time as I have to remove the halliard cover to replace the galley window

I have removed the halyard covers on both sides. Not as big a deal as you fear.
