I think I either added to or switched some of the stanchion fairleads supplied by Hanse on my 341 to stanchion pulleys with plastic wheels.  It was probably the case that the normal build up of muck made these stiff to turn and so the furling line just wore a flat on the pulley.  My brother turned a set of replacement pulleys in alloy and these have worked successfully.  

Conclusion.  The stanchion pulleys need to be of good quality, particularly the one at the front and the one by the cockpit.  The lead from my front pulley to the furler is fine.
