Hello Panos
![]() I am Andreas, A friend of Thomas from Taima and his technician by the way (I was the one who did the actual change from Gori to Maxprop). About the subject of the Max prop and your "weak " engine: In my opinion the Maxprop will equally suit your boat because it offers the option to fine tune the prop to the engine / gearbox / boat configuration, more so if you get the external adjustable one. Your engine will at normal working revs of about 3000 rpm have approximately the same output as the Volvo 160hp which is supposed to rev up to 4000 rpm to achieve its 160hp, something you never do (Volvo even requested during some time to have these engines to 3000rpm for the 630 but nobody new how to do it, they are common-rail engines and therefore controlled by a computer with apparently "hackerproof" Volvo software )- I don´t know about your gearbox tough, the relation between engine and gearbox might give you a different diameter / pitch relation, something easy to find out just making an inquiry to Maxprop, let them calculate your prop, they´ll come up with the aproximate speed and will recommend you the right size. Pros of the Maxprop are, well known construction, well balanced, adjustable and tremendous force backing up. Cons are, high price, expensive special anodes, quite noisy behavior because of linear blade shape - in my opinion still a much better choice than the Gori with the overdrive... Andreas

Dear TAIMA
Sorry for the delay in answering I was sailing the last months and not in much contact with the world, including internet. Thank you for your post. I have filmed a Gori with my underwater camera. I´m preparing the video material and will post a link with you tube so you can see the mess a Gori looks underwater. One image is better than a thousand words. ZENCAP

Dear Owners
I have found arelevant report on the efficiency and comparison of the most well known propeller in the lastest ( April-May) digital issue of PROBOATBUILDER magazine. You can search on the Internet and get a free digital issue of this good magazine. The report was made by Nigel Calder. As everybody knows the technical knowledge of this guy ( check his books about crusing) I hope nobody is gonna discuss the results of his research. In a few words the Gori was the poorest performace and the Flex o fold and the four blade volvo were the better. This graph shows the speed and rpm of the check . But you need to read the article to understand the pros and cons of each propeller as some were overloading the engine. ZENCAP Io20100328_022720_propeller.jpg |

Dear sailors
We have received a brand new Flex o fold propeller, and we will replace the prop in Miami florida in two weeks. I will publish a report of my test here soon. ZEN CAP |

Hi Zencap,
my 630 is out of the water for service. We have aprox. 200 hours with our Maxprop 24" and run it on 18" over the last year and are satisfied with the experience. Nothing compared to the Gori headaches. We are changing the bearing although the wearing off was minimal after this year. But I sort of got used to change the bearing each time I take the boat out.
I still have the Gori on sale, anybody interested?
