Hi All,

We have a Simrad CX33-e Chartplotter on our boat. There are some standard issues with it as battery change and leaking screen. I have to change the simnet socket as well, because it has aged and I could not fix the cable properly. (I attach pictures for better understanding)

Do you have any idea where can I buy the socket to change it on the motherbord? (I asked for help by simrad but they turned me off)

As witj all these boys their plugs and cables are proprietary.

Navico is the holding company for Simrad and B & G  there offices are located at :
Mariners House, Abbey Park Industrial Estate, Premier Way, Romsey Phone: 01794 510010 navico.com

Hope this helps

As you can see in other posts, there are problems with the old Simrad plotters. The general advice is to buy a new chartplotter, but an pre-used model might be cheaper.
I changed my CX-33 some years ago, since it was impossible to update the old orange C-Cards. Now I have a  Simrad NX40, with two SD-cards. I bought an extra NX40 last month, selling it again at:
To my NX40 I can still buy and update my charts, but it looks like in the future we will have to pay for the charts every year, (an annual fee) like with Microsoft Office or Photoshop.

Dear grumpydatagit,

Thanks for the hint. Unfortunately, the Navico website drives to the Simrad support link. They gave me advice on changing batteries but nothing else.
Last year we used the chart plotter with this Simnet cable connection and there was no problem so I made the decision to leave this way.

Dear Captain Cook,

Many thanks. Yes, I have read the problems with old Simrads and there is nothing new with my CX33. For example, a leaky screen is as usual Confused
Changing the aged outlet would be fine of course, but last year the situation was the same and wasn't a real problem.
I changed the battery at home, I hope it works after that (I'm not an electrician but I tried my best).
So in the end, I hope it will last this year and after that - if necessary - I'll find out what to buy.

Is the socket repairable/clean it up?   Doesn't look too bad on that picture.

The simnet socket is the proprietary version of the standard NMEA2000.   You will need a new drop cable too for the new socket.

Third way is to take a simnet cable - cut it in two - and solder the cable to the motherboard to replace the socket.   I wouldn't mention that as an option except that you seem willing to resolder on the motherboard anyway.

All a bit of a kludge but would keep it going a bit longer .....

Hi colinc,

Thanks for the support!
Only the side of the socket has aged and disappeared, the connection is good. I used this way last season.
I think it will stay the same until it lasts. I know this is not the perfect way but it works.
