Hi everyone, I'm new in this forum. I just got my first Hanse 370e 2008 and I will start asking lots of questions! Please be patient...
First sailing day (tranfer from holyard to harbour, 5 hrs): SIMRAD CX33 cant get the fix. So no position. Simnet reset (individual and total) didnt resolve. Trying to change some settings didnt help. A few days ago (during the pre-buy test in water) everything worked perfectly. Does anyone experience this same behavior? Thanks a lot

Congrats on the new boat! I switched this spring to 2008 370e. I actually had the same problem from time to time on the transfer sail. I had a really simple fix and just updated the device to B&G zeus2 7". It's already a quite old device and modern day marine electronics just doesn't seem to have a decent life expectancy.

One of the first things I would do is look to see what the satellite signal strength is at. I think the button presses are Menu - 2 (POS) and then 5 (Satellites). You should a large number of them over 50 %, preferably over 80.... I had a CX 34 and position problems were always related to cable and connector issues for the external antenna....

Actually I have no signal at all. First column presents just the same number repeated in every row and after a couple of min this number changes. Signal level never shows up.
I think a cable issue as you say or a bad configuration maybe. I will check and refer... |

More than 95% probability that it is the TNC coaxial contact to the GPS antenna.
Be careful when you take the antenna apart, DON'T TWIST IT ! Just use your thumbs to press the lid upwards. The antenna is actually the lid :). The TNC contacts are not fun to work with. I recommend to solder the inner contact, especially if you cannot borrow the exact crimping tool needed.

Hi guys, this morning I checked out GPS antenna cable and his connectors but still no fix. Im afraid I will have to open the antenna's lid from the deck to check his internal TNC female connector (am I wrong?). In the meantime I found this antenna: http://www.scoutantenne.com/Antenne%20Nautiche/NAV-6.htm is this one good for my TNC cable? Thanks...

Good photo! It shows you have a factory made cable contract - should not be the source of your problem. Mine is post-mounted and the contact must be attached after the cable is put through all the pipes and the post. After soldering a new contact my worst problems were solved. I have one minor problem left - the position update in the plotter is bad sometimes and I believe somebody said in a MyHanse forum that the GPS antenna connection is the cause. Have anybody found the real root cause to this?

In the photo you posted, the connector in the upper left has a lot of corrosion on it. Not sure if that is inline with the GPS cable to the plotter or not BUT if any of the connectors for the GPS look like that it's an issues - lots of lost signal. If you are looking at buying a new antenna, the voltage of the antenna needs to be compatible with the CX-33 output voltage. I believe the CX-34 was 5VDC. You can check the CX-33 buy disconnecting the GPS cable on the back of the plotter while it is powered and use a meter to measure the voltage on the contacts. I found it easier to find an antenna with the correct voltage and then change the connector to be compatible with the plotter. Steve

Update:
today finally I solved the problem. New Nav-6 antenna works perfectly, immediate fix with old CX33. I useda new 10m cable and put it AND the antenna directly INSIDE the pod (yes...10m inside the pod!!!) That was the win. Now the loss. Old Simrad GPS 5 antenna still stands, but no more connected! I checked rg58 cable, connectors and what else but not figured out where was the problem. For sure that cable has a join (the two ends are different) but I still couldnt find it. Today big win. Now I know where I am. It's a start! :-) P.s. in my previous photo the other TNC connector (oxided one!) is a second cable for gps antenna coming from behind electrical panel and not used. I also found a strange cable (labelled AIS) with a big connector, but I guess its not connected too...
