I placed an order for a 470e, delivery spring 2008. I have the option to cancel the order for the electronic package within 10 days after receiving the specs for the new simrad toys.

Any reports will be welcome! Even photos if the units are powered-on.

Thanks Svein!

I think the new instruments look good. I am curious to know what the Graphic does since it seems it can do a lot of different things. It's also difficult to tell how instruments photographed in a studio will look on a rainy day in a boat.

Looks nice, and I like the idea of a single transducer. However, there are no manuals and the published tech specs doesn't tell me much more than the physical size.

Johan,

sorry no photo's yet, but to give you an idea: the graphic can show almost any information available on the network: sure it can show the usual speed, depth and trip data, but also navigation data, engine date etc. You can show graphical trends of single items, such as wind or depth. But you can also divide the screen in 1, 2, 3 or 4 parts, square or horizontally and show data in any combination you like. The lights can be changed from white to red, positive or negative.

The only problem I have is that Hanse sofar has not come up with a proper manual. So I keep on practising.

Thanks for the information, Boudewijn! It seems that IS20 will be to my liking, especially if you can organise how the information is displayed yourself.

Nice to hear that you like the first look of IS20.

I've participated in the development of the instruments and hopefully you will also like other features:

For instance the rate stabilised wind filtering. The problem with getting a good wind measurement is the great inertial forces acting on the wind sensor on top of the mast (especially in bad weather and also if the wind sensor is unbalanced). The instruments uses the rate compass which is mounted in the centre of the boat to stabilise the wind measurements. This will give a great accuracy of the wind direction measurement which also can be trended on IS20 Graphics. You get the accuracy, but also no loss of dynamics of the true wind angle measurement. Traditional wind filtering only uses time averaging, while IS20 uses advanced multi input filtering.

The compass also offers correction of the heading measurement through a deviation table. The compass deviation correction will improve the accuracy of your wind direction measurement even more!

Hopefully you will enjoy the accuracy and dynamics of the Simrad instruments and sensors.

An accurate and dynamic wind measurement will also make the performance of the wind steering on the autopilot better which will enable a stable steering even when running. A new feature on the wind steering is also speed sensitive tack and gybe manouvres.

Oyvind, that's interesting to hear!

The features you are mentioning will require the new IS20 transducers as well, won't they?

Another thought, will a TP32 work well with the speed sensitivity?
