Hi Lars,
many thanks for your information. It looks very professional.
I have two questions: where do the cables end and is it possible to install the plotter rotatable so that you could see the display sidewards or when sitting ahead to the steering column in the cockpit.
I love the NOA holder, I use it too for my GPS handhold. Is it this one you used twice?

The NMEA2K cable ends at the Simnet bus.
![]() The Power cable ends at the autopilot power cable installed by Hanse in the stern. The NMEA 0183 from the GPS plotter is connected to a PC and a GPS antenna. I would like to improve the system by replacing the NMEA 0183 GPS antenna with a NMEA2K GPS antenna but I can’t really motivate the cost yet…
The Jefa pedestal is not made to draw cables’ through so be careful to don’t get cables into the steering mechanics especially at the bottom of the pedestal.
.
![]() ![]() I will improve the plotter installation so I can turn it on a metal plate. Edited by Aguamenti - 28 June 2008 at 21:52 |

Doug, I am curious to hear more about your speed sensor. I get different speeds when heeling to port than to starboard. This is probably due to disturbed waterflow around the keel which the ultrasonic sensor is said not to be sensitive to. Is that something you can confirm? Also, I understand that the sensor is 51 mm, the same size as the sensor already installed which will mean that it's easy to swap sensors even when the boat is still in the water? Do you ever get erratic readings the way the echosounder sometimes gives? What kind of connector is there coming from the convert box? Does it connect to SimNet easily? Johan |

Johan,
The electronic sensor does fit in the same thru-hull as the paddlewheel sensor. It is a direct replacement for it, so no new holes have to be drilled. So yes, you can swap sensors while the boat is in the water. I have not noticed erratic readings, but I continue to feel that the optimum placement for the sensor is on center line forward of the keel, where water flow is not disturbed by the keel itself. There is no special connector at the processor, and it accepts bare wires. So, if you have simnet leaving your existing sensor, you will have to cut the simnet connector off the end and direct-wire the correct leads color for color. You can find a simnet cable color scheme on the airmar website which will help you determine the correct color match. (Raymarine is slightly different if I recall correctly.) Hope this helps. Cheers, Doug |
