We ordered a 415 at the Newport Show in September of this year.As an after thought I checked to see the size of the holding tank. I found out it is only about 9 gals. We are on a lake in Arkansas USA. Holding tank discharge is strictly prohibited on all lakes in the US. How has Hanse solved this problem? Has anyone made a modification to the holding tank size. Our current boat has a 23 gal holding tank. I am sure that not all Hanse's are on open waters that permit discharge.

Hi Larry,

you are touching a very delicate point for Hanse, strict discharging regulations are not on their product agenda. The small holding tank for black water Hanse installs is just a alibi one, with no practical use.
Here in Switzerland we are also not allowed to discharge anything, not even grey water, showering with Soap on the bathing platform is already pushing the legal LimitsWink. However we have a well functioning infrastructure with pump out stations which are by law free of Charge.

Therefore I have installed a 25 gallon Grey water tank in the cockpit locker which is connected to a pump box where all outlets in the cabins discharge into. I solved the black water problem by installing a second 50ltr stainless steel tank which give me an additional black water capacityof 14 gals plus the 9 gals in the existing Holding tank. The stainless tank is installed behind a Panel in the shower stall.

Frank
Thanks for the info. At this time I was told by my dealer that the custom shop next to the factory could install an additional or different holding tank for a certain price. I find it strange that Hanse has not addressed this issue since appearantly the US is not the only place where this restriction applies. I am very pleased with the responce and info received form this site.

Hi Larry, Hanse is using a third party vendor in Greifswald for all off pricelist modifications. They installed the grey water holding tank. Your dealer should contact the yard. My black water tank was a new development which I realised with my local dealer here.

Hello All,

Just wondering if anyone has installed a larger holding tank (54 gallons - 204 L as in a Catalina 425)?

The ice cream bucket capacity Hanse installs is a joke, particularly from  German manufacturer that should have more environmental wisdomQuestion.

Cheers, JörgK

Hello Jörg, your comment is spot on!  We keep our 345 o a lake, which is the biggest drinking water reservoie at least in Europe. As a consequence we have a very strict legal situation, where you can not discharge anything into the water. On the positive side we have at least one pump out station per marina, and all are free of charge.
I have installed an additional 50 ltr stainless steel black water tank behind the panel in the shower:

plus a 120 ltr grey water tank in the prot locker. The blackwater tank has a Philippi ultrasonic level sensor and the grey water tank has s magnetic level sensor.
