Hello Elleve,

your panel fits quite well.
What are the dimensions of the panel?
Must be 120x80 cm?
I ve been searching for some days now but found only panel 140 cm long what I think is too long.

Best regards
Thomas

Hi, Thomas, it took me a long time to find a panel that would maximize the available area. I considered 2 smaller panels (to address the lower output concern mentioned previously when a section of a panel is partially shaded), but was not able to find any that fit as well as the single panel.

I settled on the Sunpower 170, which is partially flexible, and 1153x810mm in size. It is NOT designed for walking on. Such panels tend to be even more expensive!

I chose this location because: (i) we do not spend too much time at the bow, and (ii) it seemed less of a hassle to have these installed on the bimini, which we do put up and take down quite often depending on the day. Thus, removing and re-installing a panel on the bimini would require additional setup and takedown work, which we decided against.

Regarding shading: I was quite impressed about the panel's output when partially shaded by a line. Monocrystalline cells are better at handling partial shading than multicrystaline cells, so this is nice. 120W+ is typical, so it seems to address my modest needs quite well.

I hope this helps!

Additional details of the installation: the location of the charge controller...

And some details on the wiring, connecting the panel wiring from the outside to the inside, running through the cable tube located at the base of the mast. The cable is hidden in a cable run that I attached to the front bulkhead before I was able to route it behind the couch...

Thanks for your reply. I was searching for this panel but is seems not to be available anymore.
But you were very helpful with the advice that it is not step-proof.

Best regards.

And even better with one solar regulator per panel.

Moin together.

I solved my problem with 2 Panels in size 680 x 780 mm. They fit on the sprayhood roof.
These might be the largest, that fit on the roof.
The sailmaker will attach two eyelets in the centerposition (front and backside) to mount the two pieces with cablestraps. The outer attachment will be on the handlebars on both sides. In April ´22 I will take photo.

These were the ones i purchased:

I wish you a happy wintertime.
