I think you'll get a lot of shade on many of these panels. I tried similar myself (see my previous post in this thread) but finally gave in and got a solar arch that places the panels behind the backstay with no shading. I have 240W on the foredeck and 420W on the arch which could take at least 630W. Now self sufficient in power and not used shorepower since fitting the arch. Standard panels for the arch are very inexpensive compared to semi flexible for the deck

Nicholas, if you contacted their main office in Italy, they are not very helpful. Get in touch with the Austrian office at www.solbian.solar. They should have all templates for this type of boat (455/458) that I sent them. Michael is the guy who processes all orders and ships worldwide. Cheers!

Thank you so much Marsella ! I have been worrying about making my own templates with all their mistakes.
I will see what they say about the templates. A big part of my deck is anti-skid. Did you (or anyone else here) have to deal with that on surfaces that you put panels on, and how did you apply them? Also thanks for that info Stuart!. I am going to think about that. I was thinking there should be enough sun while at anchor (and no sails blocking sunlight). Solbian panels stick to antiskid without a problem. When you place the order, just indicate you need them walkable and with the glue at the back. Michael at solbian.solar will walk you through all the options. He will also send you a description how to prepare the surface and the procedure how to align the panels on the surface so that they stick precisely where you want them to be. Cheers!

I'm not sure if I am the Richard that you have in mind. I was the originator of this thread. I had a solar panel installed in the area in front of the spray hood. As BrightStar has in mast furling I figured out that there would be little need to walk on the panel - and so it has proven. I've been very pleased with the installation - but could always manage with a little more power! I think I'd follow Stuart's approach on Primal if I was sailing more often. Sadly I'm hardly ever out on there boat. regards Richard

Hello S&J,
Im interested in pics of the solar panels over the rear arch, as im looking to do the same. Specifically, im looking to make an independent arch sitting over the bimini. Im looking to mount 4 x 200W panels, north/south. I dont have the real estate of a 455, (ive got a 400) and so i will need to have around 600mm overhang behind the bimini. Im trying to judge how it will look before commissioning the steelwork.

Maybe take a look at my Instagram posts from the installation in Turkiye. My panels are 210W each but I have two running across the beam so they are only 600mm or so fore/aft measurement. These sit entirely behind the backstay.
