I don't know how to read the stability diagrams, but was wondering how the stability of Hanse in general stacks up. Are they suitable for blue water sailing? Thx.

I have just read a short review of the Hanse 415 in the May edition of Voiles et Voiliers.

A great review of the boat and Hanse have some pretty lofty ambitions in terms of them wanting to become number 1 German producer and then number 1 worldwide. Reading between the lines and judging by the options that are available, the Hanse brand will perhaps become more cruiser than racer particularly with Dehler being part of the group.

Based on the boats statistics, the 415 will have a B/D ratio of around 32.5% (based on a displacement of 8,900)with a very low centre of gravity in the torpedo keel. With its strong form stability - read width carried a long way back - I would say that this boat will be stiff. I have not looked at the GZ curve or the RM curve as these are not published but these are my initial thoughts.

Hope this helps.

New hanses have to be compared and are of equal charasterics than some B... brand.
Cruiser, rather slow with low wind, but stable ...
First 4000 miles, no substantial problems
